I mean, okay, you hate a band/you like a band.
Cripes, that sounds like that Shania Twain song about how it don't impress her much.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 30 June 2003 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

It's completely beyond my comprehension, I must admit. I have never heard the dave matthews band.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 30 June 2003 19:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I have never heard the dave matthews band

Your lucky, lucky ears!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 30 June 2003 19:44 (twenty-two years ago)

O how I envy you.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 30 June 2003 19:45 (twenty-two years ago)

there have probably been 2000 posts on Avril-related threads this year alone...people just love to bitch

stevem (blueski), Monday, 30 June 2003 19:47 (twenty-two years ago)

It's so easy to make fun of them, and their audience.

Charles McCain (Charles McCain), Monday, 30 June 2003 19:49 (twenty-two years ago)

"I'd like to first and foremost thank Google, without whom I never could have achieved this success. Thank you also to my management, my family, Dave Matthews Band, the posters of I Love Music, and most of all Our Lord Above without whom none of this would be possible. Thanks again; see you all at 1000!"

The "Dave Matthews Band : Name Your Reasons Why They Are So Bad & Hated" Thread , Monday, 30 June 2003 19:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Every time you people bitch about Dave Matthews, he records another song. Think about it.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 30 June 2003 19:50 (twenty-two years ago)

If Dan Perry was my dad, I never woulda stopped suckling.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 30 June 2003 19:50 (twenty-two years ago)

best post on that thread =

i hate the dave matthews band because their bassist's dad is a really unreliable guitar tech. he had my guitar for 4 months and didn't fix it.

i mean damn, you can't argue w/that, eh?

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 30 June 2003 19:52 (twenty-two years ago)

That's fantastic.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 30 June 2003 19:53 (twenty-two years ago)

They really aren't that bad from what I've heard.

Rockist Scientist, Monday, 30 June 2003 20:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I think the DMB thread is evidence of the existence of ILM groupthink.

Rockist Scientist, Monday, 30 June 2003 20:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Are you sure you heard the DMB though?

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 30 June 2003 20:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Because people like being obnoxious.

Cozen (Cozen), Monday, 30 June 2003 20:28 (twenty-two years ago)

That's really lame, RS. It's like saying the legion of people who like The Beatles/Elvis/Justin Timberlake/[insert popular band here] are evidence of groupthink.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 30 June 2003 21:20 (twenty-two years ago)

James Blount (James Blount), Monday, 30 June 2003 21:24 (twenty-two years ago)

do i detect jealousy of dmb's success?

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Monday, 30 June 2003 21:27 (twenty-two years ago)

haha

James Blount (James Blount), Monday, 30 June 2003 21:31 (twenty-two years ago)

It's lame, but so is the over-the-top anti-DMBism.

Rockist Scientist, Monday, 30 June 2003 22:02 (twenty-two years ago)

they're an inoffensive art rock band with some irritating fans, kind of like fugazi but not as good. there's a good deal of self-centered fear (of being, gasp, uncool) behind the hate.

dan (dan), Monday, 30 June 2003 22:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe it's not groupthink, but there's something fishy about it. Over 800 posts?! I can't say I've read the whole thing.

Rockist Scientist, Monday, 30 June 2003 22:19 (twenty-two years ago)

show me a single post on that thread that was written becuz the hata was worried about being uncool

James Blount (James Blount), Monday, 30 June 2003 22:20 (twenty-two years ago)

and again, 70% of the posts on that thread are a result of google

James Blount (James Blount), Monday, 30 June 2003 22:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Well whatever then, but when people say that they can't hear anything at all to like about DMB, it strikes me as funny. Don't ask me to actually quote where anyone said that, but I vaguely remember comments of that sort. Well, whatever. . . I don't really care about Dave Matthews Band, but I will try to borrow a CD from my library to see if I can say anything positive about them here.

Rockist Scientist, Monday, 30 June 2003 22:43 (twenty-two years ago)

so you're attacking comments that you're not sure actually exist?

James Blount (James Blount), Monday, 30 June 2003 22:45 (twenty-two years ago)

You could say that.

Rockist Scientist, Monday, 30 June 2003 22:50 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm with pashimina, i've never heard the dave matthews band, either.

doom-e, Monday, 30 June 2003 22:52 (twenty-two years ago)

i've never heard them

DJ Martian (djmartian), Monday, 30 June 2003 23:13 (twenty-two years ago)

That thread is great & contains my single favorite ilx0r post EVAH

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 00:02 (twenty-two years ago)

any of you hating on the dmb thread should actually READ the thread before dissing it, and accept that it takes REAL TALENT to set up such a thread. come back and diss the dmb thread when YOU have set up a thread that gets 900 posts. people enjoy the dmb thread because that is their personal taste, and you can't debate taste. it can only be jealousy that makes you sneer at a thread which brings so many such enjoyment.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 00:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Kilian your genius is like a shimmering diamond, holy God that was brilliant

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 11:58 (twenty-one years ago)

The DMB Bad & Hated thread is a corridor through which all on ILM must pass. Even I weighed in with something passably relevent, though I can work up no hate for DMB. Get thee to work, Mark Grout.

briania (briania), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 12:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I start work on the 15th.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 12:11 (twenty-one years ago)

A lot of the hate seems to be more about the people who like DMB than the DMB itself.

Freudian?

i pity those who fail to see their unbelievable talent...

So long as i don't have to hear them, I'm alright with that.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 22:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I must admit, their drummer is tight as fuck.

Salsa outsells ketchup, go figure.

Loose Translation: Sexy Dancer (sexyDancer), Thursday, 21 October 2004 00:25 (twenty-one years ago)

DMB deserve it all.
the money, the hate, the money, the fans, the money, the frat boys binge drinking and then screaming the lyrics, and of course, the money. which they have more of than many many many people.

hate DMB all you want, they'll just keep making money.

moral-DMB is mediocre music. the fans make it worse...

eedd, Thursday, 21 October 2004 08:02 (twenty-one years ago)

hate DMB all you want, they'll just keep making money.

Who cares if they're making money? Since when is that any indication of merit? I'm so fucking tired of that excuse.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 21 October 2004 12:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I waded through that infamous thread yesterday and was a little embarrassed for the DMB superfans that felt they had to defend the band's honour. I mean, like anyone, I've argued about (and for) my favourite band/scene/genre, but I've never felt the need to convert anyone. The zealotry displayed seemed very high school-ish to me, and the argument of "Well, if you JUST gave them a CHANCE" was repeated to the point where it lost all meaning. Lots of people on this board HAVE given DMB a chance and found that DMB just wasn't for them. I know, because I'm one of those people.

I will say that I do appreciate their playing ability to a degree, and (on a purely show-biz level) I respect any artist who can cultivate (and sustain) a niche audience over a long period of time. But musically, DMB do absolutely nothing for me (exception: "Two-Step" is a fantastic song), and they'll continue to do nothing for me, no matter how many times someone rattles off a list of their "attributes" and tries to tell me that I just don't "get" them.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Thursday, 21 October 2004 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

The zealotry displayed seemed very high school-ish to me

Maybe because the zealots are, y'know, in high school.

oops (Oops), Thursday, 21 October 2004 22:00 (twenty-one years ago)

They dropped poop on everyone in Chicago! Is this reason to change your mind about them?

mottdeterre (mottdeterre), Thursday, 21 October 2004 22:03 (twenty-one years ago)

hey now!

just to clarify, i have NO love for the DMB.
but, hating them just seems like a waste of time.
kinda like the music, for the most part, to me.

but, they WILL continue to make money hand o'er fist.
you know it's sad but true.

eedd, Thursday, 21 October 2004 23:55 (twenty-one years ago)

any of you hating on the dmb thread should actually READ the thread before dissing it, ...

Um, I'm on dial-up. Can someone give me the gist of it?

Sasha (sgh), Friday, 22 October 2004 01:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes...

ILM: Dave sounds like a Muppet!
DMB Fans: Nuh-uh!
ILM: The screechy tone of the violin sets my teeth on edge!
DMB Fans: Sez You!
ILM: They don't have an original idea in their heads!
DMB Fans: Waaaaaaah!
Lord Custos and Kingfish: BLADOW! (Starts shooting up the forum with "weirding modules"!)
ILM: Hey, this thread has more posts than the Jay-Z vs Nas thread!
Lord Custos: Quick! Post more in the Jay-Z/Nas thread!
Moderators: (trying desperately to supress the urge to lock the thread.)

THE END

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Friday, 22 October 2004 01:22 (twenty-one years ago)

"DMB Fans: Waaaaaaah!"

Um, you lost me the line after this.

Someone care to print it out and mail it over?

It's Old Testament-sized, Sasha.

"DMB Fans: Waaaaaaah!"
Um, you lost me the line after this.

Okay, Cliff Notes version...
"DMB Fans: Waaaaaaah!"
The DMB Fans run crying home to their mommies.
Lord Custos and Kingfish: BLADOW! (Starts shooting up the forum with "weirding modules"!)
Um, me and another poster decided it would be funny to insert quotes from "Dune"; and one of the spunkier and smarter DMB fans got into the act, saying that she was immune to the power of the Weirding Module (which is an imaginary "sonic weapon" that is controlled by a mixture of Kung Fu and Magic Words.)
The rest is kinda self-explanitory.

Okay, we're some 60 posts in now, and THIS thread is beginning to take on a parasitic life of its own, sucking away at the underbelly of the dynastic glory that is the DMB Bad & Hated thread itself. All DMB hatred should return to the mothership.

briania (briania), Friday, 22 October 2004 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, a race to 200 posts is in order.

Oh, God. I hope the mothership is armed. Maybe it can saturation nuke the entire forum to keep that from happening.
