Fred Schneider's "Just Fred" ... the lost '90s masterpiece?

Aside from Mark Kohler -- the WEA rep who shared my love for this disc -- and some nameless male customer who was hitting on me while he bought it, I can't think of anyone who raves about this disc as much as me. Great energy, fabulous Fred vocals, Albini "production" galore, and a cover of "Coconut," for Fred's sake! Why did the world say "no no no no no no no" to a punked-out Fred when the record's vibe is like the spunkier side of "Planet Claire" or other early B-52's stuff?

I've often thought about picking this up.

"Whip" rules the fucking school but the rest of it i don't remember. ok "Sugar In My Hog" was good too; "who do you think you are, GAAAWWD?!?"

Y'now, you've never seen a dancefloor full of hicks scatter until you've seen "Coconut" in action...really really loud. That disc always makes me smile start to finish.

It's a great album, actually. Very weird, wonderful and strange.

good for a spin now and then, and a couple tracks are memorable (I especially love "Stroke Of Genius"), but I don't know if it really transcends the novelty value. If I want some hardcore Fred action, I think I'll sooner go to early B's or the other solo album where he talks about the monster in his pants.

Sure as HELL wasn't MONEYYY!!!

It is not a good album, it is boring, repetitive, grating. Strictly for people who think the problem with the Rollins Band is that Henry's voice isn't high. The only track that MUST be heard is "Bulldozer," which is faster, more spirited, dynamic and musical than most of the other tracks. It also has this grandly badass Brian May style guitar solo on it.

that should be "Henry's voice isn't nasally" not "high."

Yuppers. I used to have it. I think it's pretty annoying...and I LOVE the B-52's.

thirteen years pass...

May as well drop this item here - Fred Schneider talks about his TV watching habits over his lifetime and flips through a copy of TV Guide from 1968 on the June 15 episode of the "TV Guidance Counselor Podcast." It's a very entertaining hour, all about TV and not music but he does say something about the B-52's 1979 appearance on SNL. Fred really reps for the '50s sitcom I Married Joan starring Joan Davis as an alternative to I Love Lucy.

In 1998 I visited the Barcelona Hard Rock Cafe, where there was this tiny little Kurt Cobain autograph next to an enormous 'Just Fred' poster

Got halfway thru that podcast and the host's annoying hyped-up-nerd tendency to do all the talking/step on Fred S.'s answers drove me crazy.
