To go or not to go?

last night my girlfriend told me that the Modern English are playing here tonight for only $10. while im a fan of the band and normally would want to go to a show like this, im a bit worried. their tour is billed as the "melt with you tour." im worried that if i go, i'll just see a group of has-beens playing off the success of a 20 year old single. does anyone know if they're still going strong or if they'll be playing casinos in a year? i'm torn.

or in a week? wow, that's really frightening/pathetic. thanks, though.

well, i ended up getting talked into it anyways. actually, they were surprisingly good. even though they knew they would only be remembered for that one song, they still seemed to have a genuine love for music and performing. they played some new songs, a couple of which were pretty good. plus they were all wearing suit and were in decent shape, so they were still fashionable. too bad there was barely anyone there.

I remember seeing Modern English in ('81? '82?) and was pretty underwhelmed by them I'm afraid (although admittedly they were up against some pretty tough competition on a bill with Theatre Of Hate and The Birthday Party!).

They did some pretty good singles 'though (I Melt With You, Mesh & Lace, Life In The Gladhouse, Swans On Glass and of course Sixteen Days and Gathering Dust which were subsequently re-recorded to great effect on the first This Mortal Coil 12").
