Worst New Genre: Shoemo

Last night I saw something truly pathetic: a combination of shoegazing and emo. The act was called Human Hosts; I think they're from the Washington area but if they come to your area please ignore them.

The act consisted of three vocalists "singing" (whining, more like) to backing tracks, in the sort of voices that gave emo such a bad name. At the Drive-In broke up; deal with it. When these boys weren't howling they were slumping over in the direction of their footware and/or lurching about the stage. (And they had dirty dronerock hair of the sort that would leave Kate drooling.)

This has been a public service announcement.

Is that pronounced the same way the cat from the mutts comic would say "sumo"?

Pron. "shoe-mo," but I pray that no one ever has reason to refer to this monstrosity again.

trife: at least it's not "Mallard Fillmore"

Yeah, the 'Fork had to label Kilowatthours with that term a little while ago. It's kind of inevitable that this would happen given the tendency of some indie rock bands to 1. whine instead of singing and 2. drone instead of writing songs.

Shlomo was a great Change of Heart song in 92.

six years pass...

Oi Keenan, leave the making of silly genre names in order to create hype to the NME. New Weird America was bad enough, but Hypnagogic Pop? Really? Fuck off!
You can shove that one up your arse along with your overpriced CDRs that you sell.

Now I'm going to go listen to Pocahaunted while cursing you some more.
