fp, Tuesday, 15 July 2003 22:11 (twenty-two years ago)

There are stools, too. and footrails for the work-booted.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 22:11 (twenty-two years ago)

fp, Tuesday, 15 July 2003 22:14 (twenty-two years ago)

James Blount (James Blount), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 22:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Drag City currently has a teaser in news section saying that forthcoming is an "archival release" from the Jews. If this means they're releasing the Jews' early demos (sometimes seen as a bootleg called "Trillion Story Walkup" or something like that), this makes me deliriously happy. I have a cassette tape of those demos (a bunch of extemely low-fi little songs and instrumentals, a few of which ended up on The Arizona Record), and it's truly one of my favorite things ever.

Sam J. (samjeff), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 22:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I want that tape.

fp, Tuesday, 15 July 2003 22:51 (twenty-two years ago)

their first single sucked and i paid too much for it. but the first album is luffly

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 23:07 (twenty-two years ago)

(Starlite Walker and American Water are both fantastic...)

Sam J. (samjeff), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 23:13 (twenty-two years ago)

natural bridge is so wonderful. the malkmus factor makes it really hard for me to dig their other stuff.

di smith (lucylurex), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 23:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I like the newest a lot too. Good to listen to while driving.

David Allen, Tuesday, 15 July 2003 23:41 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah Malkmus really needs to stay away from Berman. he spoils the songs he contributes to

Rumour has it that he's working on some songs with Bobby Bare, Jr. Could be interesting. Bare's Young Criminal's Starvation League ended up being one of my favorites of last year.

Will (will), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 02:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Where's this rumor from? I ask because I have grown into an enormous Silver Jews fan and think myself to be plugged into as many direct sources of Joos Noos as one can be. I do know DCB has been a strong BBJr fan for awhilesnow, though.

Famous Athlete, Wednesday, 16 July 2003 04:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, that bar is high. Some say Fosbury-Flop high. The more hyperbolic among us might need to get the pole and the foam pit.

I like Malk on American Water. Got no prob with audacious rock.

gusbot (eternal_fields), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 04:33 (twenty-two years ago)

If they were REAL jews, wouldn't they demand to be made out of gold, not silver? Thats at least how my parents are... its why I left the faith...

Paul Levesque (Bryan Moore), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 06:34 (twenty-two years ago)

bobby bare jr rumor reaching fever pitch.

fp, Wednesday, 16 July 2003 11:56 (twenty-two years ago)

i read something a while ago which made me think i would like them, but haven't really heard anything except that one kind of famous song whose name i forget
what else is good?

robin (robin), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 12:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd like to find the English teacher who told Berman he could write poetry and go SMACK SMACK SMACK. like that. thank you drive through.

gage o (gage o), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 12:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Famous Athlete = Karl in Cali, right? DCB (I assume "the real") posted something on the Joos board 2-3 weeks ago about it. At least that was the impression I got. Shit. Now I'll have to search for the post to make sure I'm not crazy and/or suffering from poor comprehension skills.

c'est moi, p.a. beaumonty

Will (will), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 12:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd like to find the English teacher who told Berman he could write poetry and go SMACK SMACK SMACK.

I'd like to give that teacher a shiny red apple.

Mark (MarkR), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 13:03 (twenty-two years ago)

i'd like to give her a hickey on her bosom followed by the keys to a '59 chevelle in running condition.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

see if this works:
here

Will (will), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 13:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I just finally heard the Dean Wareham/Britta Phillips cover of "Random Rules." Holy fuck, holy fucking fuck.

cut 'n' pasted from an IM just now:

first thought: "hey, i know this." second thought: "shit!!!" third thought: "shit, someone's actually COVERING this!" fourth thought: "DEAN WAREHAM IS COVERING THIS!" fifth thought: "Fuck, this is too perfect a pairing. Did he secretly WRITE this??"

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 17 July 2003 02:46 (twenty-two years ago)

i talked to a very reliable source tonight who informed me that drag city will be releasing a comp, including dime map/arizona plus extra stuff included on the demos (trillion story-esque).

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 17 July 2003 06:26 (twenty-two years ago)

That's darn good news! (Yeah, I forgot about "Dime Map," all of whose songs are taken from those demo tapes -- they're some of the best ones, too.)

Sam J. (samjeff), Friday, 18 July 2003 04:44 (twenty-two years ago)

gygax! was that reliable source at the GAMH and wearing a patterned shirt and having a last name that starts with K?
