anyhoo, kate, yeah it's a mix of both, really. i do about one interview a year, and this is the one that i set up for this one. I'm kinda nervous.
still, some of the questions are pretty funny -- i'll be sure to ask him about him never, ever buying a sampler & a copy of ProTools...

talked to the dude for 90 minutes. Apparently, he still talks to Dave Grohl a good deal, and Grohl disputed Mould's claim that Mould was in line to produce _Nevermind_.
Also, that the Pixies were really cool folks, "...except that one of them has a problem with her arm*--OH DID I SAY 'HER'? I'M SORRY *cough*cough*."
went much better than i thought it would, altho i didn't get to do the fanboy grilling of how he produced the albums, and why Spot was a fuckup, and other sorts of fun gossipy shit.

did you fuck bob in the van, fattey?
― gershy, Thursday, 18 October 2007 05:05 (eighteen years ago)
Wasn't Hart supposed to have a new disc out this year? ("Grant has been recording in Montreal. Look for a new release in 2007..."). Anyone know if it's been released?
His website looks like it hasn't changed much since I last saw it early in the year, so presumably the information is stale. I know Hart's supposed to be messed-up, so it wouldn't surprise me if there's no album forthcoming, but I much prefer his solo stuff to Bob Mould's. Hart's last disc -- Good News for Modern Man -- was half great.

Behold the wit.

my friend is an engineer at a studio in mpls where grant has been doing some recording over the past couple of years...but i guess he's been recording at other places too...who knows if it will ever come out. he says it's great stuff actually.
― M@tt He1ges0n, Thursday, 18 October 2007 19:41 (eighteen years ago)
It's a shame Hart is such a mess. His solo albums have been great.
― Daniel, Esq., Thursday, 18 October 2007 19:49 (eighteen years ago)
What kind stuff is it?
xpost
― Bill Magill, Thursday, 18 October 2007 19:50 (eighteen years ago)
says it's great pop songs, similar to good news for modern man
― M@tt He1ges0n, Thursday, 18 October 2007 20:19 (eighteen years ago)
Hey, M@tt: It looks like that Grant Hart disc is finally scheduled for release over the next few months. The disc has to be the result of the studio sessions you mentioned, I assume.
― Daniel, Esq., Friday, 29 May 2009 12:32 (seventeen years ago)
(Not just to M@tt, BTW; I'd be thrilled to see more Grant Hart fans 'round here).
― Daniel, Esq., Friday, 29 May 2009 12:33 (seventeen years ago)
I love Grant, just haven't heard anything new from him in a long while.
― •--• --- --- •--• (Pleasant Plains), Friday, 29 May 2009 14:48 (seventeen years ago)
I loved Intolerance. Very underrated record. Nova Mob had some good songs too. I used to go see him live all the time in the early 90s at Maxwells.
― kornrulez6969, Friday, 29 May 2009 14:49 (seventeen years ago)
Yeah, Intolerance is great. You should also check out Good News for Modern Man, which has some of Hart's best solo songs.
― Daniel, Esq., Friday, 29 May 2009 15:02 (seventeen years ago)
I wish Husker Du would get back together.
― kornrulez6969, Friday, 29 May 2009 15:07 (seventeen years ago)
His 'best of' is going to be awesome. IDK about the new stuff; I think I like "Sailor Jack" (but I like all songs with 'Jack' in the title, it seems) but "School Buses" *_-

from what i've heard recorded and live it's gonna be great

The new disc is out. Anyone heard it?
It's a minor work, but I'm enjoying what I've heard so far (on Lala -- $7.50, BTW).
― Daniel, Esq., Wednesday, 7 October 2009 21:11 (sixteen years ago)
Anyone seen him recently? He's playing tonight in Chicago.
