...On M2.

"NME is teaming up with MTV2 to launch the first daily alternative music chart show. Starting on Sunday , August 3 , the NME Chart Show on MTV2 will be broadcast EVERYDAY at 7pm. Hosted by Zane Lowe , the show will mix up a daily dose of breaking music news and exclusive videos.

Voted by YOU , it will be the antithesis of the official UK pop singles chart and will provide relief on sunday evenings when our countodwn goes head to head with the official chart.

NME Editor Conor McNicholas said "NME invented the Original music charts so it's totally appropriate we should take them back in 2003 by introducing the DEFINITIVE chart for fans of great music!" "Over many beers with our new friends at MTV2 we discovered that we share a passion for brilliant bands and brilliant tunes. Now we want to get music fans involved. The NME Charts On MTV2 will be *THE* weekly music chart that shouts loudest about what FANS OF REAL MUSIC are into. Get voting - Let your voice be heard.

I'm having a really hard even caring enough to get a rant going.

kate (kate), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 14:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Um isn't it actually "going head-to-head" with Dangerous Dave Pearce and his Dance Anthems?

4 FACTS ABOUT THE NME CHART SHOW ON MTV2

1. It's hosted by Zane Lowe.

2. It starts August 3.

3. It's voted for by you.

4. It will kick ass.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 15:02 (twenty-two years ago)

oh GREAT. The Kings of Leon, in with a bullet at number one.

For four months.

I don't think so. If no-one's buying their tatty rag, why would they watch the TV show? Desperate (but let's hope it's better designed and put together than their truly awful website).

russ t, Wednesday, 16 July 2003 15:03 (twenty-two years ago)

it'll be all boring bands that sound like boring bands from the past, it will be indistinguishable from the old grey whistle test re-runs.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 15:16 (twenty-two years ago)

my point remains - their chart will not look too different from the real chart...no Fast Food Rockers, no D-Side...will they let Avril Lavigne in tho? 50 Cent? LC Anderson?

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 15:31 (twenty-two years ago)

(insert 'with the exception of no' before Fast Food Rockers)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

It will be Dizzee Rascal as NME gave the album 9/10 and called it one of the most assured debuts of the last 5 years.
Apparently he also says 'In Utero' by Nirvana is the best album of all time. So perhaps we will have wall to wall Dizzee Rascal and Nirvana? I can handle that.
Just no Travis purlease....

Frank W, Wednesday, 16 July 2003 19:02 (twenty-two years ago)

NME gave the album 9/10 and called it one of the most assured debuts of the last 5 years.

but Kings Of Leon got 9/10 and called the best debut in 10 years flat out!

I think someone threatened to pull their advertising...

Ben Dot, Thursday, 17 July 2003 00:20 (twenty-two years ago)

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Thursday, 17 July 2003 00:32 (twenty-two years ago)

there is a crap version of this on the wb right now, the ataris are playing at the moment, they're like some mutant cross breeding of nelson and birdland.

keith (keithmcl), Thursday, 17 July 2003 01:05 (twenty-two years ago)

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Thursday, 17 July 2003 11:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Has anyone seen the Adam and Joe version of Zane Lowe? What a twit he is.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 17 July 2003 11:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Zane's okay - he recognised Adam & Joe's mockery by adopting the awkward pose on pretentious chair saying 'Spatchcock! Spatchcock!' repeatedly on an episode of Brand:New once.

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 17 July 2003 11:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think that exonerates him at all.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 17 July 2003 11:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes - "man acknowledges pisstaking, carries on being cunt".

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Thursday, 17 July 2003 11:53 (twenty-two years ago)

anybody else remember that NME TV show they had on Bravo? dire dire dire

this is just going to be the flaunt chart show with less bling and more dirge. and zane "fucking" lowe.

j0e (j0e), Thursday, 17 July 2003 12:02 (twenty-two years ago)

"man acknowledges pisstaking, carries on being cunt".

so what should he do? who should he be more like or less like? my only gripe is he's too sycophantic in interviews (tho still was the only presenter on MTV with any real spark) and too biased to yank rock. but he doesn't strike me a 'cunt' at all. he'd do much better in the States - he should definitely ditch the UK and go work over there - fuck Radio 1.

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 17 July 2003 12:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes - "man acknowledges pisstaking, carries on being cunt".

...made me snot down my chin, thanks!

I met Zane L once, years ago, when he was just starting at MTV, and he was thoroughly pleasant and superduper-passionate about all kinds of music. This, it strikes me, is generally what music TV/radio needs more of, not less - fuck the fuckers who just want to be famous and don't give a fuck if they're playing the Handsome Family or the Lighthouse Family or The Family Cat or the Swiss Family Robinson.
