So, help me. Colin Newman - Wire dude. What do I ask him?

I don't want to say the same old boring shit - "Read and Burn is so much faster - why?" He'll give me a stock answer like "we wanted to prove shit."

I'm willing to ask these questions, but I'd rather ask something a little better. Help.

Ask him if he's ever burned a guitar.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

ask him if there's any chance of a Husker Du reunion.

s woods, Wednesday, 16 July 2003 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Have you ever shit your pants?

ask him shouldn't he be embarrassed making the lame publicity move of re-using Wire name? does he feel the music couldn't stand up without having the hype of the old name?

Yes! I love that man! Wire was my fave interview evah! I got all four before their Mpls show last year. OK, don't compare "R&B 1" to "Pink Flag". No, there is no correlation between the EPs and first records (though I can still see it). The band was going to do some special multimedia performances in the UK involving their first few records. You can ask about the band running their own label, and including special gifts with online orders (i.e. Wire perfume: "The Smell of You!" which supposedly exists). Ask about the band's aesthetic...their packaging is still as minimalist as their music. Also, Newman runs his own label...
R&B 3 was in the works, but that might've been extra material on "Send". Are they touring again?

Sorry that's a little sloppy and stream-of-consciousness blather...what's the interview for?

Kate, thanks for the help.

I was planning on asking Colin if he thought there were parallels to R&B to Pink Flag, esp because in recent interviews (Sound Opinions in Chicago), he said that "Pink Flag" was the starting point anew - record label, song, album, aesthetic, etc. Why shouldn't I ask him? Horror stories?

I will ask about the record label. The Smell Of You! sounds awesome.

And of course, I will ask about R&B03.

This is for Stylus.

I might as well ask him about the contemporary scene. Seeing as how his favorite modern band is The Darkness (and, supposedly, the only one he likes), this could be fun. I'll stick in some shit about MBV coming back, too. Tie that in with The Fall/Buzzcocks coming back and still touring/recording after all these years.

Sam Bloch, Wednesday, 16 July 2003 17:33 (twenty-two years ago)

ask him if he wouldn't remind returning my records.

thanks.

Um, mr Bloch...he's not sitting in front of you, drumming his fingers, waiting for our questions, is he?

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 18:38 (twenty-two years ago)

heh. i'd give you $5 if he was.

"wait, wait, hang on--there's another update here, maybe this one will have a good question to ask..."
