sounds absolutely fucking horrendous. I know I'm gonna hate this record from the song titles alone....!

Actually it's very good. Use the 'search' button at the bottom - we've discussed it's merits at length already after it got leaked onto the net.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 17 July 2003 08:38 (twenty-two years ago)

If it manages to piss off LICD and LAGWAFIS fans to the point where they hate it on principle alone, this only makes me love it more. Hooray.

kate (kate), Thursday, 17 July 2003 08:39 (twenty-two years ago)

LAGWAFIS is his masterpiece though kate! It really really is!

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 17 July 2003 08:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't piss me off when I'm cranky, Nick. I actually like you. But that album is the line that Jason crossed.

kate (kate), Thursday, 17 July 2003 08:42 (twenty-two years ago)

LAGWAFIS sucks except for a few songs! LICD is much more consistent. I didn't like the new one much except for a couple songs.

King Kobra (King Kobra), Thursday, 17 July 2003 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

LICD is much more consistent.

I agree. CONSISTENTLY SHITE!!!

kate (kate), Thursday, 17 July 2003 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

i like "the 12 steps" & the version of "lord, can you..." off LICD.

as for the new album, good stuff. Jason likes his wah-wah pedal.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Thursday, 17 July 2003 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I agree. CONSISTENTLY SHITE!!!

Are you for real? You don't even like "Don't just do something"? The new album has four rock songs that sound exactly the fucking same! I'm convinced that no one on the planet can distinguish these songs from one another (or their ilk on LICD and LAGWAFIS!)!

King Kobra (King Kobra), Thursday, 17 July 2003 16:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Kate speaks the truth.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 17 July 2003 17:01 (twenty-two years ago)

i just got hold of the new SPZ single and *deep breath* it sounds just like BRMC!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 17 July 2003 17:10 (twenty-two years ago)

People complaining about J. Spaceman's (or the Ramones', or Phil Spector's) songs "all sounding the same" are funny.

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 17 July 2003 18:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Which is the "single," then?

M Specktor (M Specktor), Thursday, 17 July 2003 18:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually I never listened to anything they did after "lazer guided melodies" cos I figured that was perfection and there was no need to spoil it. Am I wrong?

Jacob (Jacob), Thursday, 17 July 2003 18:19 (twenty-two years ago)

i just got hold of the new SPZ single and *deep breath* it sounds just like BRMC!

But with talent and a reason to listen, surely.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 17 July 2003 18:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Probably are wrong. listen to LITD and realize jsut how wonderful LGM is.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 17 July 2003 18:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Shakey, it's only the "rock" songs that sound identical:
generic blues chord progression, high-pitched piano keys banging away at every quarter or eighth note in every measure, fuzzed out and distorted guitar screeching away at some sloppy neo-blues riff. Seriously! Listen to "This Little Life of Mine" and "Never Goin' Back" back to back. There's no reason for both these songs to exist, especially on the same album. : )

King Kobra (King Kobra), Thursday, 17 July 2003 18:46 (twenty-two years ago)

"i just got hold of the new SPZ single and *deep breath* it sounds just like BRMC!"

I had low expectations, but this really is a worst case scenario!

have to say i'm with russ - those song titles are Spiritualized parodies - and seeing as they already went so far into self-parody on the last record, i couldn't picture this being up to much. i would like to be proven wrong...

LAGWAFIS and Laser Guided Melodies are the joint best Spiritualized albums, incidentally. i think those are the only two anyone needs.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Thursday, 17 July 2003 22:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually I never listened to anything they did after "lazer guided melodies" cos I figured that was perfection and there was no need to spoil it. Am I wrong?

No... But you do need a copy of Fucked Up Inside. Are the LICD-lovers here liking it ironically? Because I can scientifically prove that it's utter crap.

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Thursday, 17 July 2003 23:28 (twenty-two years ago)

on lazer guided melodies he ripped off chapterhouse, that's perfection.

keith (keithmcl), Thursday, 17 July 2003 23:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Which is the "single," then?

It's "She Kissed Me (It Felt Like A Hit)". And it's a lame BRMC...

But with talent and a reason to listen, surely.

No, Ned, not one bit. In fact, I'd take either "Spread Your Love" or "Whatever Happened To My..." over the above any day, and I don't even *like* BRMC much. God, even Jason's done garage *way* better than this, cf. "Electricity".

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 18 July 2003 18:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Good lord, man, think about what you're saying! (Keep in mind I've seen BRMC open for Spz, which was a bit like being tempted by a soggy Big Mac before having filet mignon.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 18 July 2003 19:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I heard it a while ago and wasn't impressed. Maybe it's been remixed since then? The person who gave me the advance copy said he really liked it, but I was *really* unimpressed by it.
