Any news on a new Cannibal Ox album?

I read an interview with Vast Aire a while ago saying it'd be out this year, but if so, when's it going to be released? Or has it been postponed? (He said he was working on a solo and something with Aesop Rock, so any info. on those is also welcome.)

New Aesop Rock record is done. Haven't given it a spin yet.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 17 July 2003 20:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I think it was Vast Aire that said it was very possible that they would work with a producer other than El-P on the next album.

A scary but potentially exhilarating thought ...

fields of salmon (fieldsofsalmon), Thursday, 17 July 2003 21:11 (twenty-two years ago)

If it can't be El-P, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for NASA.

Also, since it has been mentioned: the new Aes is SICK BEYOND BELIEF. "11:35" w/Mr. Lif is storytelling par excellence, and I flipped when he namedropped Heavy Metal Parking Lot on "Frijoles". I'd elaborate but this is a Can Ox thread. ("they're not breaking up. That's just a rumor." quoth an El-P [?] answering machine message between trax on Bazooka Tooth)

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Thursday, 17 July 2003 22:58 (twenty-two years ago)

It won't be on Def Jux, I heard.

But I do know that NASA produced at least one track for Vast's solo album, and it's great. Beyon d that, I wouldn't hold my breath.

and yes I second Bazooka Tooth, it's great, especially "We're Famous" which is El's best verse since "Fire In Which You Burn." And the beat is ridiculous.

HMPL was the reference I was trying to think of on the phone the other day Nate!

M Matos (M Matos), Friday, 18 July 2003 17:37 (twenty-two years ago)

new can ox single is out now, 'cosmos' feat rob swift...

Chip Morningstar (bob), Friday, 18 July 2003 17:50 (twenty-two years ago)

NASA's beats are BAD (as in -ass!). That one he does on I Phantom gave me goosebumps about 20 minutes ago. If he produced this album (or even a sizeable majority of it) I've got a great feeling about it.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 18 July 2003 17:56 (twenty-two years ago)

it WILL be on def jux - that rumour was propagated by the news section at hiphopsite who removed it hours after originally posting it

i talked to the guy who writes the news and he more or less maintained that they DID have a falling out with def jux but that it was v. quickly patched up after people started going apeshit at the news of a can/ox def jux split

with a pinch of salt etc

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 18 July 2003 18:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Fuck, I'm psyched for that new Ace Rock record.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 18 July 2003 18:16 (twenty-two years ago)

fuck a grain even

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 18 July 2003 18:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Yo Nick - Do you have the Presence 12"? It's NASA's group. It's like classic CoFlow meets Antipop meets Terry Gilliam's Brasil.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Saturday, 19 July 2003 02:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Matos: ha! It was the reference I was trying to figure out, too. Oooer, creepy.

Rob Swift being on the new Can Ox track gives El-P and MOP many fewer steps of separation. I DEMAND "ANTE UP '03: ROBOT VIOLENCE, BABY" RIGHT NOW

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Saturday, 19 July 2003 03:36 (twenty-two years ago)

the next can ox (or at least vast aire) record should be produced by ADAM F

the can ox album has held up remarkably well

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 19 July 2003 03:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Are we talking "Dirty Harry" Adam F or "Smash Sumthin'" Adam F? (Either way, YES)

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Saturday, 19 July 2003 04:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Ante Up plus El/CanOX would make me pass out immediately. Quite happily.

Vast Aire's verses on "Iron Galaxy" and "Pigeon" (bookending the album, oddly) still completely shred me. Where did he get that cadence? He's like a trombone or something.

Kickstarted

Brakhage, Friday, 22 February 2013 22:05 (thirteen years ago)

are these the dudes who got sonned by a wite kid after a aol beef?

Poliopolice, Friday, 22 February 2013 22:09 (thirteen years ago)

Not getting my hopes up here. Cold Vein is one of myy favourite albums ever but everything I've heard from them since then has been a bit average. Let's hope they prove me wrong shall we

paolo, Saturday, 23 February 2013 09:49 (thirteen years ago)

I know they mentioned needing money for videos, tour support, etc, but $30,000 seems like a pretty ambitious goal. Not saying they won't make it, but, err...they did The Cold Vein for far, far less than that.

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Saturday, 23 February 2013 18:45 (thirteen years ago)

sounds like they're trying to finance a roster of artists as well

gentle german fatherly voice (President Keyes), Sunday, 24 February 2013 01:16 (thirteen years ago)

and no El-P, right?

queeple qua queeple (Jordan), Sunday, 24 February 2013 01:27 (thirteen years ago)

Pretty sure that relationship soured big time.

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Sunday, 24 February 2013 02:52 (thirteen years ago)

no El-P probably kills 80% of my interest in this, sorry CanOx

c'est magnifique, mais ce n'est pas le beurre (imago), Sunday, 24 February 2013 11:54 (thirteen years ago)

Also one of my favorite hip-hop records ever, but I'm not expecting much from this. Kind of wish they weren't doing it.

MikoMcha, Sunday, 24 February 2013 12:54 (thirteen years ago)

Even if there's no El-P, they should at least mention who is producing the album, but these seems to be no info on that. I sent a message to them via Kickstarter asking about the producer(s), let's see if there's an answer.

Tuomas, Sunday, 24 February 2013 16:39 (thirteen years ago)

Vast Aire explained (in 2009):

WHAT WENT DOWN WITH CAN OX’S 2ND RECORD?

To be real, we started that project, but vordul dropped the ball on that, vordul became very distant and was drunk and coked up all the time, he became this way after his jaw was broken in a bar fight that was ment for el-p. long story short, that helped wake up vorduls “dark side” and we only did like 5 songs. El-p got mad at me as if i should have been vordul’s baby sitter! vordul is a grown man, he made his choices, dont get mad at me!

gentle german fatherly voice (President Keyes), Sunday, 24 February 2013 18:53 (thirteen years ago)

god Will High had that much effect?

ta-nehisi goatse (fadanuf4erybody), Sunday, 24 February 2013 21:22 (thirteen years ago)

i can believe that story. but, at the same time, it's not like vast ended up doing anything incredible after cold vein himself. i think that together they could make something listenable though, even without el-p. although i'm certainly not expecting another cold vein.

8 days to go and they've reached nearly 19% of their goal

FAQ

WHAT HAPPENS IF GOAL IS NOT REACHED?
The project must reach it's goal in order for the packages to follow through. In the event that we dont reach out 30,000 goal, we IGC wanted ALL BACKERS TO RE-BACK us at end of the month when we restart the KICKSTARTER. The reality is if we dont reach our goal none of the money will be available to label.

At that point...we will have an idea of all THE REAL backers and will be able to reset the kickstarter with a number we are sure of. So please push this out and lets reach our goal. if not we shall try again! IF AT FIRST YOU DONT SUCCEED...TRY TRY AGAIN!
