that quebec font is so canadian i'm gonna go home in tears and drink a quart of maple syrup ...

fields of salmon (fieldsofsalmon), Friday, 18 July 2003 20:56 (twenty-two years ago)

That is easily the worst album cover they've ever done. Whatever happened to Boognish!?!?!? PRAISE BOOGNISH!!!

Evan (Evan), Friday, 18 July 2003 21:01 (twenty-two years ago)

two weeks pass...
OH. MY. FUCKING. GAWD. WOW! and shit.

Yeah, exactly. I just heard it today.

Andrew Frye (paul cox), Saturday, 2 August 2003 22:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh by the way, make sure you're downloading the right version! There's a fake version floating around, but it's really easy to spot, seeing as how none of the song titles appear in any of the songs and shit. Strangely enough, I actually like the fake one almost as much as the real one (especially the "What the motherfuck's up, bitch!? Deck the ho!! Deck the ho!!" song.)

Evan (Evan), Saturday, 2 August 2003 23:41 (twenty-two years ago)

You are all crazy. This is THE most irritating record I've heard all year.

JoB (JoB), Sunday, 3 August 2003 01:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Compared to Ween albums I've heard in the past (most of which I've found irritating), I've really taken a shine to this one. Maybe it will be the great divider.

Andrew Frye (paul cox), Sunday, 3 August 2003 01:51 (twenty-two years ago)

i agree with salmon, the font screams elementary school portfolio from anon. gvt. agency.

ween has a canuck consultant.

anthony easton (anthony), Sunday, 3 August 2003 10:28 (twenty-two years ago)

"Whatever happened to Boognish!?!?!? PRAISE BOOGNISH!!!"

On my copy, the first thing you see when you remove the CD is a huge boognish staring at you. This is a lovely record. Must have listened to it 6 times this week. It's not as good as The Mollusk, but not much is.

billstevejimpete, Sunday, 3 August 2003 18:27 (twenty-two years ago)

It's release timing is great, as it sounds totally summery and breezy. Plus this record just sorta makes ya feel really good to listen to in a vaguely romantic way.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 4 August 2003 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Just bought the album at Turtle's here in Memphis... I've listened to it thrice already... There isn't a bad song to be found. Rolling Stone had the nerve to give it **.Anyone who is familiar with Ween know that they aren't really interested in pleasing the critics or any kind of majority in the world (esp. a mag that puts an American Idol winner on it's cover), but as they say "narrow is the gat that leads to salvation". And in this particular case, 'Quebec' is an album which could lead many a lost and forlorn to a musical land o' plenty, no snobs allowed. 'Quebec' is very good, transendant even. Any doubters out there would be wise to get 'Quebec' now so ten years from now they can say "oh yeah, I liked 'Ween' back in day, way way before they turned down being on the cover of 'Rolling Stone'

Quebec- *****

spacespartans101, Tuesday, 5 August 2003 07:45 (twenty-two years ago)

The thing with that Rolling Stone review was that it was like the reviewer was listening for that specific retarded jokey Ween from like 10 years ago rather than reviewing quebec on it's own merits, as an album from a band that has grown and is still growing.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 13:57 (twenty-two years ago)

"it's gonna be a long night" is the best song motorhead never wrote.

sean marvin (williamtell), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 18:19 (twenty-two years ago)

nine months pass...
Good album, good as White Pepper, The Mollusk is still my favorite Ween and Ween (w/ Turbonegro in a close 2nd) is still my favorite band of all time.

Helltime, Friday, 21 May 2004 23:29 (twenty-two years ago)

??! Get Quebec now so you can say you liked Ween "back in the day?" God Ween Satan came out like 14 years ago.

Helltime, I'm with you. Ween is one of my favorites as well.

martin m. (mushrush), Friday, 21 May 2004 23:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Washington DC, 930 Club, June 10th, muthafuckas!

Helltime, Friday, 21 May 2004 23:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, too bad I live in Seattle.

martin m. (mushrush), Friday, 21 May 2004 23:48 (twenty-two years ago)

C'mon, man, that's what, only a 10, 12 hour flight? you can do it.

Helltime, Saturday, 22 May 2004 00:02 (twenty-two years ago)

three years pass...

Are there any artists or other albums that make music which sounds like the trippy melodic moments of this great album?

gigabytepicnic, Thursday, 15 November 2007 00:21 (eighteen years ago)

three years pass...

Looks like Mickey just released for download a 2-disc set of the demos for this album, originally called "Caesar" - some pretty neat stuff there with a bunch of unreleased material, if you dig the album search it out, it's all over the internet.

Still think this is the band's best or maybe second-best album, I really do dig the trippy slow atmosphere of many of the songs and the more melodic, dramatic stuff is ace.

Can't believe it's 8 years old and they've only released one album since!!

frogbs, Tuesday, 16 August 2011 14:41 (fourteen years ago)

Yes, 8 years! Never really got into this album.

Duncan Disorderly (Tom D.), Tuesday, 16 August 2011 14:45 (fourteen years ago)

eleven years pass...

In a retrospective point of view, it's their best album.

nostormo, Tuesday, 18 July 2023 20:56 (two years ago)

yes, their one absolute masterpiece, based on my recent discography dive

imago, Tuesday, 18 July 2023 21:01 (two years ago)

The Mollusk is still their masterpiece imho, but yeah Quebec is damn close.

Maxmillion D. Boosted (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 18 July 2023 21:03 (two years ago)

mollusk is where they start to believe, but could stand to lose a couple of tracks. quebec they somehow - somehow - pull off everything

imago, Tuesday, 18 July 2023 21:07 (two years ago)

I'd say it's a better than Mollusk because it's more diverse in styles and a little less goofy. In Short, the quantity of good songs is higher.

nostormo, Tuesday, 18 July 2023 21:10 (two years ago)

Would totally agree that Mollusk is more narrowly focused, but goddamn they knock it out of the park.

Maxmillion D. Boosted (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 18 July 2023 21:15 (two years ago)

I mean, I'm not discounting that The Pod might also be a masterpiece, but I'm slightly scared to hear it again (I liked it, but)

imago, Tuesday, 18 July 2023 21:16 (two years ago)

both Mollusk and Quebec are excellent but yea over time I've come to realize Quebec is def the better of the two. imago is right, everything on it works. kinda wish they had the balls to make it even longer and include some of the better tracks that got cut.

frogbs, Tuesday, 18 July 2023 21:19 (two years ago)

the cutting of Ooh Va La from the official release at the last minute was the only thing they fucked up. mind you where does it go? maybe at the very end, puncturing that huge epic moment of gene ween pathos, lol

imago, Tuesday, 18 July 2023 21:22 (two years ago)

Mountains & Buffalo is stunning as well. Ween is the only band that sent me deep into downloading bootleg live recordings and shit. Spent a lot of time on the Ween Forum.

Quebec is the best. It gets real and it gets dark but manages to not be a downer. Probably too abstract and Ween to make the list of best divorce albums, but it deserves a spot.

Cow_Art, Tuesday, 18 July 2023 21:28 (two years ago)

two weeks pass...

highly recommend everyone listen to "Hello Johnny" from the demos, I love their weirdass strain of feelgood shit
