Maybe it'd be more of a challenge to think of 10 bands that the Dafe Mettews Bend is actually better than....
Okay. Name 10 bands (in increasing order of horridness) that are actually less appealing to listen to or see in concert than the Dafe Mettews Bend.
Here's my Attempt

10] Live
(the two kickass tracks on "Mental Jewelry" are the only thing that keep them from scoring higher on the hatefulness meter. All the rest of their music is turgid mush.)
9] Warrant
(Poison and Motley Crud, as horrid as they are, can at least craft crummy "hits" that are almost-but-not-quite-catchy.)
8] White Lion/Whitesnake
(Yeah...like anyone but their fans can tell 'em apart.)
7] The Geto Boyz
(Great...just we needed...a 2 Live Crew ripoff.)
6] Korn
(Imagine a band that tries to fuse the worst parts of Rage Against the Machine with the worst bits of Limp Bisquick...and fails even that.)
5] Limp Bisquick
(Sorry, Miccio...but of all the songs I've heard by them...well, I end up forgetting them while I'm listening to them.)
4] Days of the New
(Love Creed? Well...here's their illegitimate children!)
3] Mudvayne
(Slipknot is at least interesting to look at. These yabbohs don't even have that going for them. and speaking of Mud...)
2] Muddle of Pudd...er, um...Puddle of Mudd
(Remember them? Neither do I. Especially not their sub-sub-sub-Pearl Jam wannabe insta-grunge.)
1] Creed
(Can someone please explain to me why anglos cannot merge Gospel and any other kind of music without sucking the soul and passion out of both genres simultaneously?)

so who's your ten worst?

Please forgive the horrible grammar of the thread title. I haven't got my morning coffee yet.
(MODERATORS: please change the "is" to "are")

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Friday, 18 July 2003 11:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Jesus Chris not another thread on the Dave Matthews Band! I still have never heard them.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 18 July 2003 11:25 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm sure you'll have heard a bit of 'The Space Between' Tom, its been their only VAGUELY successful hit in this country.

stevem (blueski), Friday, 18 July 2003 11:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Imagine the ensuing centuries of Judeo-Christian debate had Jesus' second name been Chris.

Cozen (Cozen), Friday, 18 July 2003 11:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Here's three other places on the internet where someone talks about the worst of the worst. And comes up with a mixture of answers both obvious and counterintuitive.
One
Two
Three

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Friday, 18 July 2003 11:33 (twenty-two years ago)

"My Mind is Playing Tricks On Me" and "It Feels Good To Be A Gangsta" are better than most DMB songs.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 18 July 2003 11:34 (twenty-two years ago)

10. This is a completely pointless thread, you know.
9. Honestly, how much bandwidth should we be devoting to this?
8. It's getting to the point where the people going on and on about DMB on both sides are equally tiresome.
7. There must be something else you want to talk about, Custos.
6. Like, ANYTHING.
5. Millions of bands out there, you know.
4. Actually, I think I'm going to hijack this thread to talk about "Tower Of Strength" by Mission UK.
3. That guitar riff at the beginning is just astounding to me, not because it's complex or revolutionary or anything, but because it's perfect.
2. Don't even get me started on the progression of the chorus!
1. Isn't it a shame when you hit a band that releases a song so superlative that the rest of their catalogue can't even begin to compare to it?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 18 July 2003 11:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Tico: We're in the same boat. I only heard a few snippets from a tv feature once, and that sounded very harmless and dull. Not much to be mad at. Let's diss Metallica or some other really insluting act instead.

Jay K (Jay K), Friday, 18 July 2003 11:54 (twenty-two years ago)

i'd like to thank Dan for reminding me of the bloody Mission. and here's a useless fact. they filmed one of their videos in Mad Bess Woods in Ruislip - sadly the ghost of Mad Bess herself didnt make the final cut.

stevem (blueski), Friday, 18 July 2003 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

"insluting"
Great word. Gotta find a way to slip it into more drunken rants.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Friday, 18 July 2003 12:40 (twenty-two years ago)

7] The Geto Boyz
(Great...just we needed...a 2 Live Crew ripoff.)

Dude, Geto Boyz were the shit! I mean, c'mon, a rapping hardcore midget! How do you get cooler than that?

6] Korn
(Imagine a band that tries to fuse the worst parts of Rage Against the Machine with the worst bits of Limp Bisquick...and fails even that.)

Korn doesn't really sound anything at all like RATM or LB. Zack de la Rocha, y'know, he rapped in them songs. Fred Durst, well, he does something kinda like trying to rap in them songs. Jonathon Davis ain't once ever rapped NEVER. RATM, LB = songs mostly with fast (sometimes very fast) tempos, Korn = slow (sometimes very slow) tempos. RATM songs = "righteous" angsty-ness and attempts at empowerment. LB songs = adolescent responses to emotional turmoil. Korn = music for dealing with what kinda sick fuck you know you are.

just being a pedant sorry (nickalicious), Friday, 18 July 2003 12:56 (twenty-two years ago)

music for dealing with what kinda sick fuck you know you are.

uhm, some of us think that Big Black & the Butthole Surfers were better at doing that.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Friday, 18 July 2003 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Include Kid Rock in that list, right after Creed. God, I fucking hate that guy.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 18 July 2003 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

explain how geto boys are a 2 live crew ripoff

ron (ron), Friday, 18 July 2003 14:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd rather someone explained why "Tower Of Strength" is so fucking great.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 18 July 2003 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

would it even make a difference if I said this is a shitty, pointless thread idea?

g--ff c-nn-n (gcannon), Friday, 18 July 2003 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

It's wonderfully great, Mr. Perry, because even though it ain't "Kashmir" it's a GOTH "Kashmir" knockoff and is almost as long.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 18 July 2003 14:23 (twenty-two years ago)

would it even make a difference if I said this is a shitty, pointless thread idea?

Hence the hijacking/focus on unfair malignation of the Geto Boys/general not-taking-intent-of-thread-seriously.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 18 July 2003 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

>4] Days of the New
>(Love Creed? Well...here's their illegitimate children!)

Adding to the pedantism, Days of the New are Alice and Chains rip-offs, along with Godsuck, who should also be on the list..

fletrejet, Friday, 18 July 2003 14:43 (twenty-two years ago)

The Beatles, Parliament/Funkadelic, Mozart

Sonny A. (Keiko), Friday, 18 July 2003 15:50 (twenty-two years ago)

There are hundreds of bands that DMB are better than.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Friday, 18 July 2003 16:59 (twenty-two years ago)

i cant believe that other thread has topped 1000 posts

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Friday, 18 July 2003 17:24 (twenty-two years ago)

TAG! Yanc3y's "IT"
(*sticks out tongue. Runs away!*)

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Friday, 18 July 2003 17:25 (twenty-two years ago)

y'know, it really bugs me on Seven Nation Army that the faux-bass drops out for the big riff but Jack White has no problem with overdubbing a guitar solo. does it bug anyone else?

thom west (thom w), Friday, 18 July 2003 17:26 (twenty-two years ago)

uhm, some of us think that Big Black & the Butthole Surfers were better at doing that.

I'm one of those some-of-us, actually. No...definitely. In the nickalicioustacks you'll find Hairway to Steven and Locust Abortion Technician...you won't find Untouchables.

I don't exactly like Korn (I don't dislike 'em either though), but it just irks me when they're reputation-for-certain-styles-of-music has more weight on their place in recent music history than what their actual music sounded like.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 18 July 2003 17:27 (twenty-two years ago)

woah i need coffee...

where it says "...some of us, actually", read "actually" as "possibly", I swear it makes so much more sense that way.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 18 July 2003 17:28 (twenty-two years ago)

1. KISS
2. Northern State
3. Doobie Brothers
4. Crosby Stills and Nash (without Young)

That's honestly all I can think of. I will say that I'd sooner hang out with the FANS of any of the above than the fans of DMB. But song for song, I think i'd be able to physically endure DMB a few seconds longer than the above.

roger adultery, Friday, 18 July 2003 17:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Doobie Brothers fans are just old DMB bands you know.

Mike Ouderkirk (Mike Ouderkirk), Sunday, 20 July 2003 07:52 (twenty-two years ago)

"Wait" by White Lion is good. It has a really fluid guitar solo and the double-tracked "Hold on"'s are classic. I like the lush production and the sad-puppy voice too.

And come on, CSNY had great moments. They'd have been greater if Neil Young wasn't whining all over them but still.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Monday, 21 July 2003 14:44 (twenty-two years ago)

oooh you hit a nerve buddy Neil is king round here

anyway, i react to Suite: Jusy Blue Eyes the way I imagine many Beatles fans react to Yoko Ono's voice. I get chills and not the good kind. Worst song ever?

roger adultery, Tuesday, 22 July 2003 06:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, at least now I have an idea what it is that some people have against CSNY. "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" is beautiful (even better than "Suite Madame Blue"), a precursor to the glory of Yes, though, yeah, I think Neil Young detracts a bit.
