I do hope Rich does less dancehall remixes however 'cause it's not for him-his Tiga one is funky and brilliant and not at all dancehally.

My fave songs are Walk on by, Lemon lime, freak like me (a bit old isn´t it....) and i liked the Annie track aswell.
The jarvis/mazzy star song wasn´t very good...
― Jens (brighter), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)
As a nice juxtaposition, while I was listening to it in Tower, the shop stereo was playing an 80s synth-pop complilation, featuring, of course, 'Are Friends Electric', 'Being Boiled', Heaven 17, the Flying Lizards ad infinitum.
― Barima (Barima), Thursday, 28 August 2003 13:05 (twenty-two years ago)
I even like the Jarvis one even if it is a tad incongruous on there.

The more I listen to this album the more I think that every second oozes genius and invention and sparkling newness, the whole sum-of-parts thing becomes almost irrelevant because this actually sounds like much more than its component bits which I hoped but did not expect at all.

― Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 29 August 2003 09:40 (twenty-two years ago)
Also, Alex in Doncaster is OTM. There hasn't been sample blending in pop of this skill since the Dust Brothers and Fantasma, and it's quite plain to see that Richard does have love for his sounds and work, rather than being into any of the 'soulless, smirking, ironic fascination/amusement' people tend to project/presume etc into such records.
The Tiga one is like getting trapped in the best and most camp straight/gay/bi/whatever disco in the world and making you love it. It's like the chorus of 'Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger' (the 'work it, do it, power' etc) has come to full fruition and we're reaping the benefits like no tomorrow. The spoken part is only more killer (who said "I'm the kind of girl who always gets what she wants"?). Richard's Gareth Gatex (erroneously and amusingly/appropriately referred to as 'Gaytex' in a recent review) 'Hot In Herre' rmx makes a wicked counterpart to this, as well as kicking the 'original's' ass in the process.
The album also inspires a sense of epicness (for me) that the new UNKLE fails to achieve. I feel humbled in the face of Rich's skills. There's something about artists overhauling their childhood memories and music that usually never fails to be classic (cf. aforementioned albums and the new s/titled one by Pleasure).
And David, bring it :-).

Fuck, man, it's like there's nothing RX can't do! The mashups, the album, the remixes (Tiga, TLC, Louie Austen, haven't heard the Prince Po but really want to), the videos, the amusing promo, the sheer crazy insanity classiqueness when I asked one of the Nag Nag Nag DJs to play 'You Better Let Me Love You' - AND HE DID at +8 and all the gay bodypoppers at Heaven completely lost their shit and mashed up the floor. Well, OK, 'You Used To' didn't get fully released, but nobody's perfect.
Annie's signed to 679? Excellent. Loaded don't really do albums - closest is this Jockey Slut mix they did. 'The Greatest Dub' is the final track - 7 minutes of madness.

2003/2004 feels like the time when female-fronted electro-pop finally starts to live up to its own potential as the post-R&B pop-form of choice in the UK. And the secret was obviously (a la "The Greatest Hit" - who was it who said this was how Madonna's last few records should have sounded) getting a bit silly and irreverent and unashamedly pop. See Girls Aloud's "The Game", Sugababes' "Whatever Makes You Happy", even Britney's "Toxic" sorta.
Can't wait to hear more Annie stuff.

He also once claimed to be behind a major garage pop single back in the good ol' garage-as-chart-pop days.
The sales were a joke - a no.1, a no.3 and a no. 8 in the singles charts over a year and the thing was underpromoted to fuck, perhaps because Virgin didn't think the kids would take to the Annie and Jarvis tracks.

X-Factro totally deserves to make more shortlists, it's overlooked in many Junior Boys reviews/modern albums that continue the synthpop lineage picks.

I've just downloaded a GEM of an mp3...it's a mix Richard X did for XFM, half an hour long, soooo good...some of his stuff, m83, etc...very very nice it's called Richard X - xfm the remix superchunk.mp3
has anyone got this, or know the tracklisting?
― NI, Thursday, 5 June 2008 13:38 (eighteen years ago)
also this:
Mary vs Liquitex - '73 Club' split 7". RX does the Mary side, which was from his aborted pre-fame concept record
what is this like?
rx should have become massive, he made the most perfect pop. i know he's been working with a few manchester bands, producing and writing songs with them, is that his main thing these days?
― NI, Thursday, 5 June 2008 13:39 (eighteen years ago)
(not specifically manchester bands, i mean producing bands in general)
