man, I'm leaning towards dolls but part of my body's screaming "good lord man - don't do it!"

James Blount (James Blount), Saturday, 19 July 2003 18:14 (twenty-two years ago)

the girls win here because as much as i admire johansen's reshuffling of the original song's dna the band is not up to his level. also i like girls.

I prefer Johansen's slobber.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 19 July 2003 18:35 (twenty-two years ago)

it's the riff for me

James Blount (James Blount), Saturday, 19 July 2003 18:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I love the way the girl says "LUV". Shangri-La's.

four months pass...
The Shangri-Las! *MWAA!* (The "MWAA!" alone!)

I love the Dolls' lyrics but the playing drags on that one, for some reason. And the Shangri-Las' song is about perfect.

Frank Kogan (Frank Kogan), Friday, 18 November 2005 04:11 (twenty years ago)

Shangri-Las destroy all

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Friday, 18 November 2005 04:17 (twenty years ago)

I like the Johnny Thunders cover of GHAGBK

k/l (Ken L), Friday, 18 November 2005 04:39 (twenty years ago)

I don't think "Looking for a Kiss" drags.

Q. "Which Sex Pistols songs kind of rip off 'Looking for a Kiss' and other Dolls songs?"
A. "I dunno. Lots of 'em."

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Friday, 18 November 2005 05:01 (twenty years ago)

Indeed. Again, I refer you to the So Alone album, featuring some awesome Jones/Cook/Thunders collabos, including a mighty cover of "Pipeline."

Or, to answer your question another way:

"Is he a good guitar player?"
"What d'you mean is he a good guitar player?"

Too bad the only other clip up there (right now) is fucking "Long Live Our Love."

I have an mp3 of New York Dolls covering Give Him A Great Big Kiss, and I have no idea what release it's from. It's a studio version, and it's not the Johnny Thunders version from So Alone. The only versions I've heard on New York Dolls CDs have been sloppy live versions, anyone know where I can get a copy of the studio version?

"Is he tall?"

"Well, I gotta look up!"
