OCP (OCP), Sunday, 20 July 2003 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

(folx cursing over in Australia so loud that it reaches all the virtual way down to Estonia - Webtastic or Netological?)

((Hello, Melbourne - have a good time y'all! ;-))

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Sunday, 20 July 2003 22:21 (twenty-two years ago)

oh shit, OCP, I'm sorry, I'll do it tomorrow I swear

Kidding, dude!

OCP (OCP), Monday, 21 July 2003 04:20 (twenty-two years ago)

So, who went? And how was it?

Michael Dieter, Saturday, 2 August 2003 02:24 (twenty-two years ago)

i went! and keith mcd was there too. it was a pretty straight fwd party hip hop set (plus a few of yr anticipated curveballs including some red hot chili peppers), and tho i'm pretty familiar by now with what dexta plays and how he puts a set together (ie really well) i still enjoyed it and danced non stop except when the ben harper song came on. kuya was ace, mixed in a lot more electro and pop and big beat and other stuff. he esp endeared himself to me by mouthing along some of the words to the odb song he played. dexta did a bit of breakdancing. i liked the venue too, i hadn't been there before.

minna (minna), Saturday, 2 August 2003 05:51 (twenty-two years ago)

it was great!

Keith McD (Keith McD), Saturday, 2 August 2003 06:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I should have introduced you to Andrew, the guy to whom ilx owes its survival and all

Keith McD (Keith McD), Saturday, 2 August 2003 06:25 (twenty-two years ago)

er... andrew, did you attempt to introduce yrself to me early in the evening? only to have me smile vaguely and wander off? if so i'm sorry!!

minna (minna), Saturday, 2 August 2003 07:43 (twenty-two years ago)

He wasn't there early in the evening, plus I don't think he knows what you look like.

Maybe I'll write about the night on my blog, or maybe I won't and plug it here: http://keith.wh3rd.net

Keith McD (Keith McD), Saturday, 2 August 2003 10:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sorry I didn't get there - but really, a 'stutterstep' set? What's with that?

I've seen the regular Dexter show, like at Big-Mouth in St Kilda last year - and it's a full on party-hip-hop thing, which is great. But for some reason, I assumed he would be playing 'shuffle-tech'. And that would have been interesting...

Michael Dieter, Sunday, 3 August 2003 03:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Minna, I was there, but by the time I got around to asking Keith "Hey, where's Minna?" he said "Hrmm, she was right there a minute ago," to which I replied "Oh well."

Next time? I'm definately going to be at the next anything involving Dexter. What a fucking madman.

Andrew (enneff), Sunday, 3 August 2003 03:35 (twenty-two years ago)

haha yes i was wandering around a bit mental patient style

the stutterstep thing was a red herring... dexta always (****minna=nerd alert****)plays a segment of stutter beat songs anyway, this time it was 'are you that somebody','we at it again', 'my red hot car', and a few others i cant remember... there was one unidentified one that was really great. i think it was b2k but i'm not sure... does anyone know if b2k have any songs like this?

there's another dexta thing on this week at the prince of wales i think.

minna (minna), Sunday, 3 August 2003 18:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Can someone e-mail me before these things so I don't totally forget about them?

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 4 August 2003 01:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll try to remember to mail you a day or two before, if you'd like, Tim.

Andrew (enneff), Monday, 4 August 2003 11:50 (twenty-two years ago)

two months pass...
minna is ding dong any good? i don't know if i'm hip enough to get in

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 22:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't worry Ding Dong is not very hip. It's the International Lounge w/ a patchy and incomplete svelte veneer.

Hey is anyone gonna come to Bourgie this Friday (tomorrow) for the Beat vs Inpress clash?!? Tossers galore! And Me!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 23:48 (twenty-two years ago)

tim you're djing??

minna (minna), Thursday, 9 October 2003 00:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Pfft.

Buy your brother a job week.

Sasha (sgh), Thursday, 9 October 2003 00:48 (twenty-two years ago)

?

minna (minna), Thursday, 9 October 2003 01:14 (twenty-two years ago)

But the International Lounge doesn't exist any more! I know this because it said there was something on there in Beat, so I turned up and it was gone. That's actually the second time that's happened to me! (previous time with a different place of course)

I'll be there Tim! I'll support Beat despite it fucking me over.

Keith McD (Keith McD), Thursday, 9 October 2003 01:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't worry about Sasha. He just likes saying things like that.

Keith McD (Keith McD), Thursday, 9 October 2003 01:30 (twenty-two years ago)

((he will be supported by dips who i havent heard of and kuya who is dexter's older brother))

RELEVANT ENOUGH FOR YOU KEITHY!?

Sasha (sgh), Thursday, 9 October 2003 02:08 (twenty-two years ago)

sasha you're looking at the wrong poster! and kuya is better than dexta anyway

minna (minna), Thursday, 9 October 2003 02:15 (twenty-two years ago)

and i thought he was talking about tim's brother...

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 9 October 2003 02:17 (twenty-two years ago)

So you'll be 'spinning' DANCEHALL - CD-mixing?

Also - is there a cover Tim? And any idea about what time?

Michael Dieter, Thursday, 9 October 2003 02:20 (twenty-two years ago)

"But the International Lounge doesn't exist any more! I know this because it said there was something on there in Beat, so I turned up and it was gone. That's actually the second time that's happened to me! (previous time with a different place of course)"

Ha ha yes that's my editor's fault - you have no many times i turned up to Salt or later Bubbles Laundry Bar expecting them to be playing UK garage when in fact they were doing nothing of the sort.

International Lounge did close, but then it reopened as Ding Dong. It's been open for about 2/3 months now I think.

"So you'll be 'spinning' DANCEHALL - CD-mixing?"

CD-fading actually - I habe no skillzor. I don't think there's a cover charge, it would be pretty fucking stupid if there was (who would come?). I think the festivities start at 9. I'm hoping to play before 12 so that I can skip along to see Jeff Bennett at Honkytonks.

I've formed a pact with one of my housemates: I will play "Baby Boy" and she will try to do the accompanying dance from the MTV Music Awards.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Thursday, 9 October 2003 02:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought Ding Dongs was the hipster breeding ground of Melbourne. Or is that OneSixOne? :D

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 9 October 2003 02:57 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah 161 and cherry

the surface noise (electricsound), Thursday, 9 October 2003 02:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Fuck cherry bar, fucking crap shit cunt.

I might convince some mates to come with me to your thing Tim, where the hell is Bourgie though?

Andrew (enneff), Thursday, 9 October 2003 03:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Bourgie is the new hipster breeding ground! Republican-backed ViceMag's venue of choice 'downunder', apparently. THURS has Architecture in Helsinki DJing there - also was a 'Mutant Disco' night on Saturday that I never got around to...

It's up Little Lonsdale Street, near Harware Lane + LaLaLand in the City.

Michael Dieter, Thursday, 9 October 2003 05:50 (twenty-two years ago)

THURS has Architecture in Helsinki DJing there

all of them? they'd get about 10 minutes each..

the surface noise (electricsound), Thursday, 9 October 2003 06:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah I've never been to Bourgie. The Vice-backed thing i'd noticed - Vice and Bourgie are jointly presenting the head of Gomma records DJing some electro/post-punk/punk-funk/garage rock/chicago house thing. Also don't they do that "subversive" Queer night (the one that's not at Laundry)? "Fags & Slits" or something?

Mind you I'm irresistibly drawn to Hipster Breeding Grounds. I love love love Honkytonks which astonishes a lot of people.

The one time I went to 161 (dragged along by Clem Bastow) there were these awful art-synth-punk acts playing live and I fell asleep watching them and had awful nightmares. The DJing part was okay except that they would rather desperately pull out Beyonce and Sean Paul (yay!) to get people dancing and then would blow their credits on obscure indie stuff that was plainly undancable. Mind you, even moderately danceable stuff like "She Is Beyond Good & Evil" or even "Me & Guiliani..." is gonna sound somewhat clunky after "Get Busy". I guess it's heartening to see that whole crowd (which is, lets face it, Weekender with new garage rock haircuts) discovering the middle of their bodies.

I got very angry though because some tosser-bitch-from-hell threw her empty glass on the dancefloor in a display of rawk-indifference, resulting in me cutting my feet and ruining my shoes. grrr!

Q. has anyone seen any of Agent86's hip hop sets at F4/First Floor (can't remember which)?

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Thursday, 9 October 2003 06:42 (twenty-two years ago)

knitting is big in sydney now. there's big knitting sessions at many tredny inner city pubs amongst people of a youthful age, no doubt it's going off in melbourne as well, i'm not sure what music one would knit to

mentalist (mentalist), Thursday, 9 October 2003 09:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Tim played a great set.

Andrew (enneff), Saturday, 11 October 2003 10:50 (twenty-two years ago)
