I've certainly found some vinyl there that I was pretty pleased about that I know are tough to find. Plus there was an interview with Bob Stanley of St Etienne in the Metro a couple of weeks ago and he singled out Copenhagen as being good for record shopping.
I have passed hip hop/dance record shops but can't exactly remember where they are. If you wander about the back streets off Stroget you will come across them. The city centre isn't very large.

Make sure to visit the Latin Quarter, which is sort of the Soho of Copenhagen. Køpkatergade which crosses Strøget (Copenhagen's main street) rather low down.

The name of that street is Købmagergade btw. Must have been fast asleep when typing.

Are there any record stores in Copenhagen? Google is throwing up ones that seem to be closed. I'm going in a week.

I have to say Skoven Kalder in Ægirsgade, since I sorta help run the place (me and some friends are leasing two small spaces and has cleaned them up, I write in the back, and there's a recordstore out front) But what kind of music are you looking for?
― Frederik B, Sunday, 8 March 2015 19:44 (eleven years ago)
Mostly electronic, dance stuff but also jazz, disco, soul, rock and pop stuff from 70s/80s onwards. I just like going through records!
― mmmm, Sunday, 8 March 2015 20:07 (eleven years ago)
Thanks Frederik. Any other Copenhagen-related cultural tips very welcome.

Hm, electronic isn't really what we're good at, the name translates as 'The Forrest Calls' and the music is sorta like that (I have no influence over the sortiment, I'd like to say...) But there's also coffee and beer and stuff. When are you arriving and for how long? March 19-22 there is the Copenhagen Architecture Festival, which I also work for. It's mostly film, but some events as well. Louisiana museum in spring is awesome as well.
― Frederik B, Sunday, 8 March 2015 20:30 (eleven years ago)
Arrive on 16th, leave on the 21st. I've put Skoven Kalder on the list. Architecture Festival sounds interesting - any recommendations on events? We only speak english, unfortunately. Louisiana Museum looks great as well, is it easy to get to from central Copenhagen? It looks a little out of town.
― mmmm, Sunday, 8 March 2015 20:53 (eleven years ago)
Most of the films are with English subtitles. There are some good ones, but like, if you like film. Two Pedro Costa and Jonas Mekas for instance, pretty rare to see those! Louisiana is easily reachable by train, but yeah, it's out of town. We show film there as well, that's where I'll be stationed. If the weather is good, it's one of the best places to go!
(also, sorry for just recommending places that I work, but I honestly don't know what else is going on these weeks... The meat packing district is the place to party, that much I think I know.)

Oh cool! Do say hi. I'm the one in the CAF t-shirt with the glasses and the nametag that says Frederik.
― Frederik B, Wednesday, 18 March 2015 23:44 (eleven years ago)
I can confirm that the following record/cd shops were trading in March 2015;
AccordBeat-Bop (good selection of jazz vinyl)Sort Kaffe & Vinyl (coffee shop with a small selection of vinyl)Sound StationGoldmine Records (quite a lot here, pity I didn't have more time)Mint RecordsA small place on Jægersborggade (unusual selection, electronic? folk?)
Thanks for your tips Frederick. We went to Louisiana, but didn't make the CAF film there that day. We were kind of scared by the Richard Mosse exhib, so went out catch the sunset in the beautiful grounds. We went to the CAF showing of Barbicania on the Friday which was cool. A bit of a boring choice as we only live a couple of miles from the Barbican but it was interesting.. Good food in Copenhagen too.

That should have read 'scarred' not 'scared'...

The Danacord shop in Vognmagergade seemed a pretty good classical-music store when I was there earlier this year. Found a couple of things that aren't on Spotify and I haven't been bothered to mailorder, plus the guy who worked there was really knowledgeable about various stuff, including Scandinavian contemporary-composition types.
