Not quite farewell, but...

Tomorrow at some point I'm unplugging the cable modem, switching off the computer, and packing them both into boxes alongside the rest of the fully packed boxes that currently line every room in my apartment. Everything's headed for storage one place or another and will stay there for about six months.

Also among the packed-up things: my stereo and all my CDs -- five boxes worth of the latter. I'm bringing a handful of discs but mostly hope to hear a lot of live music. I'll be in NYC for most of the six-month stretch, so there should be plenty of good things to hear. And I'll be busy with plenty of exciting work-related activity. (I'm a university professor and it's a sabbatical leave for research.)

But it hadn't really dawned on me until I stopped to think about it the other day -- my online access will be MUCH less than before, and the whole structure of my day will be a lot different, with ILM not really part of the routine. I'll still lurk occasionally, maybe post very occasionally. And I'm determined to make it to at least one NYC ILX FAP!

Maybe it's odd to start a thread I won't easily be able to follow beyond the first day, but it seemed odder to disappear from ILM with no explanation. (Would anyone notice?) So this is my chance to bid farewell to some familiar faces screen names, hanging around here has been a great experience for me and I'll be back eventually!

Thanks for all the kind words and good wishes.

I have reached that final stage of packing where if it takes me more than a couple of minutes to figure out what to do with something, throwing it in the trash starts to look like the best idea. But at least I'm pretty much on schedule. [checks schedule] Ah yes, all those phone calls to make now...
