Is this a single disc? If so, it must have that terrible single edit of "This Is What She's Like." All of those tracks wouldn't fit if it's the 12-minute version.

I've got a couple of spare tickets for London if anyone's interested.

Is anyone planning to go to either Portsmouth or Leicester?

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 14:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes! I'm so fucking there.

Yes, Matthew and I will gladly take those tickets if someone can pay for our air fare. Oh, and house us. And a meal or two would be nice.

Former Dexys Midnight Runners members and former Style Council keyboardist, Mick Talbot, have reunited the legendary British funk Northern soul band “The Bureau”. The band will release the new album “…And Another Thing” on Monday 6th October (available to buy from www.bureau.org.uk). “…And Another Thing” is the first new studio album release that follows the 2005 reissue of the Bureau’s 1981 self-titled debut album.

The Bureau will support the release with a series of rare concerts at Birmingham’s Sound Bar on 3rd October, Newcastle’s The Cluny on 8th October and London’s Jazz Café on 9th October.

"Tell Me When My Light Turns Green" is amazing -- when I first heard it I was really angry that it wasn't a huge US hit, thus making me wait until adulthood to hear it.

Guayaquil (eephus!), Monday, 11 August 2008 18:25 (seventeen years ago)

Wasn't there supposed to have been a new disc from Dexy's Midnight Runners out last year? What happened to that?

Daniel, Esq., Monday, 11 August 2008 19:22 (seventeen years ago)

Mick Talbot! No way! Are you shitting me!? WOW. I guess I wasn't that crazy about the Bureau, but I'm pretty fascinated with Talbot. I'd like to hear this.

Bimble, Monday, 11 August 2008 20:26 (seventeen years ago)

I saw them live, back in the day (The Bureau, I mean), and a few years ago got the 2CD reissue of the album. Funny, could have sworn they were cracking live, but the whole album was um....

Can't say this one's gonna be much different.

Mark G, Monday, 11 August 2008 20:29 (seventeen years ago)

Weren't they sortof ska though? I can't bloody remember what they were like now.

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Monday, 11 August 2008 21:56 (seventeen years ago)

Ska? noh.

I dunno how to describe them. Imagine early dexys without Kev, really.

Mark G, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 06:49 (seventeen years ago)

The new stuff on their Myspace is pleasant enough, but perhaps it strays too far into Talkin' Loud / Acid Jazz / James Taylor Quartet territory.

mike t-diva, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 10:19 (seventeen years ago)

James Taylor Quartet! Wow I haven't thought of them in a long while.

I have to say I'm a little nervous though, I think their back catalogue is one of the most pefect ones I can think of. I don't want them to spoil it.

Excited for more live dates, the show I saw them do in 2003 was incredible.

Kitchen Person, Friday, 10 February 2012 15:43 (fourteen years ago)

Liked this way more than I expected, kind of excited now.

Dexys Midnight Runners - Don't Stand Me Down.
Kevin Rowland and Helen O'Hara give rare interviews about a pivotal time in Dexys Midnight Runners' history. Having been the best selling UK band of 1982 with their massive hit single Come On Eileen and the hugely popular album Too-Rye-ay, Dexys took some time to consider what to do next.

Don't Stand Me Down was brave and different to Too-Rye-Ay. Rowland had a clear vision and went to great lengths to record and mix it to his own specifications.

His interest in his Irish roots and Irish politics was one of the themes of the record. Misunderstood in its day, it received poor reviews but has since gone on to receive critical acclaim.

piscesx, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 19:18 (fourteen years ago)

I've always wondered if Don't Stand Me Down was actually that poorly received when it came out? I know it did very well in NME's end of year list and apparently Melody Maker gave it a good review too. Is it just one of these things people say as it sold quite poorly?

They were great on Jools last night
