That's right -- the voice of Homer Simpson doing his own psychedelic record featuring Ric Menck on drums, Jon Brion on guitar and sax, and Brendon Benson on, er, handclapping...

As I recall, this record is actually not that bad -- kind of in a Dukes of Stratosphear/Jellyfish mold. Of course, he doesn't sound anything like Homer on the record (though he could pass for a Monkee).

Yeah! It's pretty fun in that regard. One of the ultimate: "Guess who this is" records...

nine years pass...

A decade on, I still think this record is an underrated little gem. Lots of really good moments of homage -- Dukes of Stratosphear is a good comparison point, tho several points of departure often exist in a single song.

The middle-eight to "Rainbow Coloured Cloud" is a nod to the Bee Gees' "Red Chair Fadeaway," both the Mellotron arrangement and tune.

"Under the Peppertree" is some kind of McCartney tribute -- or perhaps a tribute to a tribute.

"Ostrich Avenue" is a nod to The Kinks -- tho there's something else there too.

I'm still trying to figure out the others.

Also, his voice work is just that -- it sounds like several different singers on this record. Many of them good.

"Feet on the Ground" is Ringo.

"Through It All There Is Love" is George.
