isn't DMB a typical american band like hootie and the blowfish, a band that never will get big outside the US. What´s so special about these bands?

Peter Carlsson, Tuesday, 22 July 2003 17:19 (twenty-two years ago)

the DMB has an unnatural connection with the Shai Hulud, as they try to fight their way free of their Harkonnen oppressors.

or at least, that's what I gathered from the last DMB bootleg put out, "Death to Harkonnen--Long Live the Fighters!"

Kingfish (Kingfish), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 17:23 (twenty-two years ago)

DMB is the best, anybody who says otherwise can move to France.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 17:29 (twenty-two years ago)

sez you, Harkonnen-sympathesizer.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 17:29 (twenty-two years ago)

He represents the inherent self-disgust and fear of blandness in the average American.

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 17:37 (twenty-two years ago)

the baron will have a heart plug installed in all who oppose the rule of the DMB.

Felcher (Felcher), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 17:40 (twenty-two years ago)

no no, felcher, i think you're mistaken.

as we were all informed by several DMB acolytes in the other thread(s), the Dave Matthews Band are a loose collective of musicians, too numerous to count, who, when not touring or boring the world's music fans, hide out in "sietchs" among the desert. They spread of gospel of the Kwiezats Haderach, the Perfect Being, and drink of the Water of Life.

I believe this is the only known photo of the leader of the DMB:

And it's Dave, not the good Baron, who's insisting in the forced-implantation of heartplugs.
*Insert your own "bleeding heart" joke here.*

Kingfish (Kingfish), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 17:50 (twenty-two years ago)

the politics involved in Feyd being the leader of the followers of the kwiezats Haderach boggle my mind. and i thought the lansraad was a mess.

Felcher (Felcher), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 17:57 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, with the passing of the Emperor Garcia, the many Great Jam Houses of the Landsraad have been warring for dominances ever since.

actually, i think this completes the full circle with the orignal "He's a 90's Sting" comment.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 18:02 (twenty-two years ago)

now how to tie him in with the muppets...

Felcher (Felcher), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 18:21 (twenty-two years ago)

hmm. gimme a minute.

if somewhere were to make a John Denver link/joke, it'd be all that much easier.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 18:28 (twenty-two years ago)

not really a link, but frightening nonetheless

What's the deal ...?

no idea what the deal is, but they sure have gone multi-platinum, on ILM, thread-wise

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 09:07 (twenty-two years ago)

T/S: Baron Harkonnen: Kenneth McMillan or Robbie Coltrane.
Robbie Coltrane played it straight, and did an admirable job of both displaying the characters ruthless intellect and fruity peccadillos (and the costume designer is to blame for letting those peccadillos just flap in the breeze without adequate coverage.)
Kenneth McMillian was such an over-the-top hambone that you could call his acting "bad"...but his acting was so twitchy and crazed he became the most entertaining thing in that movie. Every line that came out of his mouth suddenly became 'classic!' just by dint of his nutzoid delivery.
This is like pitting Bryan Ferry against Johnny Rotten!

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 10:49 (twenty-two years ago)

wow, weird pop culture turns actually make this thread more interesting.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 11:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Dave Lync > Dave Matthews.
Don't argue. Just accept it.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 14:54 (twenty-two years ago)

sorry...my "h" key got stuck
that shoulda read:

Dave Lynch > Dave Matthews.
Don't argue. Just accept it.
