Whats the consensus on slipknot spinoff Murderdolls and Stone Sour?
If theres already a thread on slipknot then just talk about the spin offs!
I prefer murderdolls over stone sour , however the cover of 'White Wedding' is terrible. I hate it when bands do this to get a hit. The worst has to be Fear Factory doing 'Cars' or Orgy doing 'Blue Monday.

I never really got into the whole nu-metal/techno metal thing, What I do know is that seeing Andrew WK in a 600-capacity club is really awesome, and he is a guy that I would definetely invite to spend like 3 weeks on my couch just so I could get drunk with him for most of a month. Also, I am really excited to see Turbonegro on the 12th of sep @ the Black Cat in DC.

they were playing that murderdolls cd in a record store i was shopping at. i left. "hey dracula...i think you suck!" haha, clever, now fuck off back to iowa and play in bars for the rest of your life. same for stone sour, though they're just flat-out fucking boring.

I have only heard Slipknot. Although its probably a sin for me to admit it, I think they're pretty great. They are sort of "gateway death-metal" for a lot of kids. They are nowhere near the most extreme band out there, but they mention Morbid Angel and other good death-metal bands in interviews alot - which makes their little trendy mall-metal fans want to check them out. Never have seen them live, but their DVD is the shit. Its like a death-metal circus.

Love them. I prefer Murderdolls to slipknot. Really good fun live too. Stone Sour are ok. When is the next Slipknot album due?

The Murderdolls/Stone Sour gigs were awesome. Slipknot will have an album out by the end of the year apparently. It will be their last album. Hopefully there will be a tour then festival appearances next summer.

Bugs under my carpet > Stone Sour > Slipknot > Murderdolls

musically speaking of course.

I still prefer Slipknot over the other bands , but I prefer Stone Sour to Murderdolls.
I just cant see where Slipknot can go next on their new album. They cant shock anymore , They cant go any faster. I think this will be the last Slipknot album because they dont have the vision of a Slayer or a Carcass or even Napalm Death to revolutionise their sound. This is the last album that will sell for them too.

I agree with Johnny Badlees about their gateway death metal, which I think in a sort of way is a a good thing. And I like Stone Sour better than Murderdolls.

I liked Stone Sour's album a lot, because it was a conscious attempt to blend Slipknot's headlong raging noise with some mainstream hard-rock moves; you know, melody and whatnot.

Anything that gets the kids into less mainstream metal has to be good. And thats what Slipknot do. Kids will then check out old & new bands their heroes namedrop. Im sure Chuck Eddy and co had to start somewhere too!
Even though Cradle Of Filth are a similar 'cartoon' type band it does introduce them to a style of music theyw ouldnt hear normally as the likes of Kerrang etc just dont cover it.
