I just saw a David Allen Coe concert and his drummer was a black guy... does this confuse anyone else?

Alright, I am not a country afficicianado, nor am I a D.A.C. afficianado, but I heard the DAC tape that my redneck cousin had, and it used racial epithets liberally, and now I see him in a Austin City Limits show and his drummer is a black dude. I am confused.

Ever see the Sam Fuller film Shock Corridor? Took place in an insane asylum, there was this black patient who was in manner and appearance a member of the KKK.

That's like a Korean grocer catering a party at Ice Cube's pad.

It turned out in the end (SPOILER ALERT!!!) that it was O.J. Simpson who was dressing up in sheets and killing townsfolk...with a knife!!!

Someone just wrote to me:

"I went to a David Allan Coe (yeah I know……) show in Austin, Texas and this is about 1972 or so. Anyway he had a couple of black girls singing backup for him and needless to say they were the only blacks in what was a typical cosmic cowboy type scene of the time."

Maybe the incongruity is put there for a reason. Does David Allen Coe himself belong anywhere?

Or maybe he just liked the way the drummer played or the girls sang and it has nothing to do with art or a message.

Interesting either way.
