best songs under 45 sec's to end a mix tape
im racking my brain here and all i can come up with are:
'bush recording' from beefhearts trout mask replica, a nifty little guitar outro from the p-furs, the rain and guitar thing from some j.m.c. record. that little sniping bit at the end of some pixies record and some insane phone messages from my deranged grandmother about how i had broken into her house and messed up her t.v. remote (she called with that accusation weekly)

Violent Femmes' "Old Mother Reagan" is thirty seconds, I think, and ends with the word "stopped," which might make a clever ending for a mix tape.

Prude (Prude), Monday, 28 July 2003 22:07 (twenty-two years ago)

"Chicken" by the Senseless Things
"All" by the Descendents
"They're Red Hot" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 28 July 2003 22:35 (twenty-two years ago)

There are a couple of pieces on David Byrne's "The Catherine Wheel" that work well for this. Also some of the short cuts from Naked City. If you have a whole sprawling minute left on a side, the Residents' "Commercial Album" is made up entirely of minute-long songs.

Nom De Plume (Nom De Plume), Monday, 28 July 2003 22:44 (twenty-two years ago)

"They're Red Hot" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers

I think that "Spyder" [sic] song, by TMBG (right?) is short enough ...

I always used to use the little industrial grind between "Dead Finks Don't Talk" and "Some of Them Are Old" ...

I think "Her Majesty" is short enough ...

"Underneath the Bunker," perhaps ...

brian nemtusak (sanlazaro), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 01:29 (twenty-two years ago)

If you the tape to go out with a bang, use 'A Brief Treatise on the Discovery of Antimatter' by The Dirtbombs.

It'll probably go better at the beginning of it, though, so re-record the whole damn thing on my say-so, y'hear?

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 02:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not sure about TMBG's Spider, but any number of the Fingertips pieces could work.
