There's a new set of CDs (sold seperately) commemorating two excellent live gigs from Paris (???), 1970. June Tyson has never sounded better, and Alan Silva (!!?!?!) is featured (tho you'd never recognize him - some straaaange playing!!)

At first listen, Volume 2 is better...but easily some of the best Sun Ra live shit I've heard. Space is STILL the place!!

it's called 'Nuits de la Fondation Maeght' and it's on Universe

Is that the jazz festival that was set up by a private art collecter who also set up an Art Gallery Foundation? ? I think Theres an Albert Ayler set called 'Nuits de la Fondation Maeght' amongst others. I'm pretty sure thats the name of the private gallery. I cant speak french but Fondation gives the game away a little.

aha! Ok, yeah, there was actually an earlier cd edition of this material, but they were illegitimate and mastered (shittily) from vinyl. I'd love to actually be able to HEAR this stuff; will look for these editions.

The Albert Ayler is available on soulseek. Maybe just a search for will find a few good nuggets?

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, I already have these on CD. I was stupid enough to buy them when I was in New York - then I find out that they are "illegitimate and mastered (shittily) from vinyl". In fact, the concept of exepcting hi-fidelity from a Sun Ra album is rather a novel one.

didn't ReR put these out on lovely hand-screened vinyl years ago? if it is the same concert, which has the most beatific version of "Enlightment" and lots of wacko outness near the end, then i am running out the door.

In much of the free stuff whether its masterd well or not doesn't make much difference if everyone is on form. will look out for these.

Wish somebody would reissue Cecil Taylor's Foundation Maeght discs.

Phil Freeman (Phil Freeman), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Al Andalous, Tuesday, 29 July 2003 14:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Also I started a 2003 reissues thread, but can't find it now.

Al Andalous, Tuesday, 29 July 2003 14:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Fighting to establish priority in mentioning reissues of albums which have already been reissued in the last decade: dud or dud?

Al Andalous, Tuesday, 29 July 2003 14:32 (twenty-two years ago)

twelve years pass...

Any of you freaks pull the trigger on this yet?
