so i just got back from barcelona and picked up this amazing s/t psychedelic record from a Japanese guy named Harumi. the first song is like the beatles on even more acid filtered through tons of effects. i haven't listened to all of it yet, so i don't know if it's all like this (will report back soon).

but what's his story? i haven't found any info on him. should i be excited to listen to the rest of the disc? is it super rare (i paid 30 euro for it)? does he have any more albums?

Apparently, this record was originally issued on Verve in '68. I can't find anything online that mentions other Harumi releases. From what I hear, the record is decent, but not necessarily transcendent. I don't think it's rare, as I could find VG+/NM copies for about $25 online.

after listening to most of it now, i'd say it's pretty damn good. sides 3 & 4 are side long psyched out jams with trippy effects, spoken word mumbo jumbo (in japanese), orchestral stabs, guitar solos, funky organ, eastern instruments and percussion, and weird multi tracking. sides one and two are more song based super trippy, orchestral 60s pop.

i don't feel like i wasted my money.

see? there's an album for everyone.

i like the long tracks (but i'm a sucker for original hippie sidelong jamzz) and a couple of the short, but this probably wouldn't even make it into my top 100.

30 euro probably isn't a bad price at all - don't know how rare it is but verve forecast label stuff around here ranges from $10-$25.

um, if its reasonable prices then i might get this.
