Xtina's "Beautiful" vs. Cocker's "You Are So Beautiful"

These songs are very similar, are they not? Ever since I first heard "Beautiful" (good song) I've been trying to think of what song it reminds me of. Then I heard it back-to-back with "You Are So Beautiful" a few moments ago and I figured it out.

Do you think "Beautiful" intentionally mimics "You Are So Beautiful"? It seems like too much to be a coincidence, esp. given the titles. Forgive me if this has been discussed already.

Which one do you like better?

I think "Beautiful" halfway tries to mimic the Beatles, but it doesn't do a very good job. It's a decent song, though You Are So Beautiful probably wins out here.

The Christina song is fantastic, probably the only song of hers I like at all. The descending chord progression and melody are very interesting and she sings it well. I like the video too.

"You Are So Beautiful" is one of the dreariest songs I've ever heard. All it makes me think about is a beardful of mucus. Will someone please defend Joe Cocker?

well, I always kind of dug his sophmore release Joe Cocker!
it has a damn fine cover of Dylan's "Dear Landlord" and L. Cohen's "Bird On A Wire." "Delta Lady" (w/ Leon Russell) and the New Orleans-tinged "That's Your Business Now" make for some bad boogie woogie.

Of course, I've never really been able to take any of his chart-toppers. I also picked up his debut With A Little Help From My Friends featuring "Feeling Alright" and a young Jimmy Page on guitar. Even so, it bores me to tears. So in good conscience, I can only defend his second (& probably his poorest-selling) LP.

Is there a trance remix of "You Are So Beautiful"??

Sonny A. (Keiko), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 20:35 (twenty-two years ago)

that Christina song is great...especially for the creepy whispered "don't look at me!" at the very beginning of the song.

I care little for either, but I'd rather hear somebody sing "you are so beautiful to me" than "I am so beautiful to me."

The descending chord progression

Best part of the song. Glam, I tells ya! Big bold Jim Steinman glam.

Oh god... spit take all over desk... oh god... can anyone think of ANYTHING more disgusting than oral sex from a hippie? I don't care whether Cocker's actually a hippie, that's the image this conjures up... I'm laughing and gagging...

"You Are So Beautiful to Me" reminds me of "I Love You Just the Way You Are" -- kind of patronizing and horrible. The singing doesn't exactly help.

I'm not exactly Xtina's biggest fan but "Beautiful" is one of her better singles and is definitely superior to "You Are So Beautiful to Me".

No one hears a resemblance, then?

I feel like we're lying on a hillside looking at clouds and I’m going, "That one looks like Sarge from Beetle Bailey!" And you’re all, "No it doesn’t."

Christina's wipes the floor with Cocker's beard-cloth

xtina seems to be aiming for a look as bizarre as cocker's was in his prime.

My daddy was a huge Joe Cocker fan. :(

Anyway, I prefer "You Are So Beautiful", regardless. So there.

Clem Snide cover the Xtina ... I've heard it's good ...

brian nemtusak (sanlazaro), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 06:00 (twenty-two years ago)

there IS a trance/hard house remix of 'beautiful', and it absolutely STINKS. it also makes christinas kinda bland voice sound really sickening. recently, i was painting my flat, and the only radio station worth listening to around here played it every 30 mins. I ALMOST WENT FUCKING CRAZY!!!

Jay K (Jay K), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 07:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Christina wins on account of the fact that her song hasn't been murdered with Bateman-like relish by Marge Simpson (and yeah, Cocker deserves that, but I don't want the memory anyway).

The Xtina trance remix is great! Cocker needs one!
