If you were getting ready to go run riot in the street... don't really care why you would want to do that, it is your business, what would you like to hear in preperation for said event?

In all seriousness, I'd say the ideal band to spin prior to rioting would be Missing Foundation, whose primary goal was to incite riots.

http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/drc700/c735/c7351024llt.jpg

That said, aren't riots by their very nature spontaneous and anarchic and thereby unplanned (rendering the notion of listening to some to gear oneself up for a riot rather moot)?

zarathustra, Friday, 12 September 2003 03:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Nice job everybody! And to answer Alex's question: All the riots I've been in were caused by the police attacking people who were not actively destroying stuff but refused to be pushed around by a bunch of tin badged, flat foot, sheet reading pigs.
So before I go to a demo that I know will turn into a riot once the swine get rolling, I put on some Motzart to calm down and relax, during the trip downtown I enjoy some James Brown, so I'm happy and friendly with my fellow agitators...but once the lawmen start knocking down old ladies and punching 12 year old kids in the mouth Black Flag's Police Story starts playing in my head...every time.

the melvins "stoner witch"

it's been a long time coming, but i finally listened to my first melvins cd. no idea why i never got into this earlier since i've already been listening to earth, boris, sunn o))), and khanate. it has an awesome energy to it. probably the type of thing that wears off after a few listens, but for now it's still amazing.

Does anyone know the name of the DC rasta (I think) ska band (NOT Bad BRains) who did a song maybe in the late 80's or early 90's called "Riot, Riot!"? It's on some old school, totally forgotten comp of DC hardcore shite... Oh, wait -- were the called Spy Vs Spy?? That just came to me, for some reason...

Anyway: that song.

the melvins "stoner witch"

welcome to the wonderful world of the melvins! and this is not exactly one of their greatest works either. man, you have some treats ahead of you... try and track down lysol if you can, then bullhead, a senile animal, the maggot, gluey porch treatments, etc. it's all good.

I can't believe no one has mentioned dead kennedys' 'riot' yet. too obvious? great tune though.

It's Tough to Beat Illious (noodle vague), Friday, 9 February 2007 14:49 (nineteen years ago)

Quickly perusing this thread, I was going to say "anything but a song specifically ABOUT rioting" (like, I dunno, an old girl group or Motown song, perhaps?) (I guess when I think of this sort of thing I think of "Please Mr. Postman" in Mean Streets, which, granted, is merely a brawl and not a riot per se) but I like the "incidental music" idea too, or maybe some keystone cop player-piano music. Favourite suggestion from this thread, however, is "Disco Inferno" or "Get Down Tonight." Want my riot to be loads of fun.

Oh, sweet memories of the riots in gothenburg 2001.. What did I listen to? I remember I had time to go to some recordshops between the fighting and shootings and everything. Found the marvellous "das Geheime Leben: Electronics" by Reinhard Lakomy. Symphonic, spacey and crystal clear seventies prog. That was the best.
