...really this is "Artists addressing record label/management/A&R issues in their lyrics, classic or dud?" but I couldn't resist the title. Good examples? Who does it well? Who's just a whiny twit?

It's usually whiny shit. What I want is a rock group to celebrate their label, P. Diddy style. I want Ian MacKaye not goin' nowhere cuz he's Dischord for life. Conor needs to yell "Saddle Creek!" in the middle of concerts.

Conor needs to yell "Saddle Creek!" in the middle of concerts.

Doesn't he do this enough in the middle of interviews?

The Cure's song about their label was "Do the Hansa" not "Meathook". Hansa was the first label who signed them, but they never released anything on it because the company wanted Robert and co. to record covers.

Yes but "Meathook" was about being told their songs didn't have hooks, although you can't tell that from the lyrics.

This is the perfect setup for a round of "Is Robert Smith Lying?".

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Sunday, 14 September 2003 21:18 (twenty-two years ago)

that Murphy Lee song is so post-modern...he professes to not wanting a hook in the song, in the actual hook of the song...like him and JD had an argument about this in the studio, and then in the mixdown sneaky Jermaine went and looped the argument into a hook.

g, teeny.. I need to unearth my 10 imaginary years notebooks for some revisions!

Oh yeah, I forgot about the Bob constantly lying to reporters thing. Carry on then.

I deliberately left Pink out so someone else could bring her up--best example of this recently I think is the namecheck of L.A. Reid in "Don't Let Me Get Me."

Are we ever going to get people leaving messages for Robert Smith on this board, for instance? I mean, besides myself and Dan.
