i'm sure there are other threads in this vein, but i didn't have much luck with the search and i don't have time to go through by hand...so sorry for the repeat, already.

i've got a new computer and i need a program to download music now. frankly i'm scared to use kazaa due to all these lawsuit stories, and the soulseek webpage is down. recommendations? i can't go without any longer. the boys in my dorm are now obsessed with dashboard confessional and it's intolerable.

gabba.net

Go to www.emusic.com and sign up for their free trial. It's legal and works swellegantly. Then quit if you don't like it, and pay nothing. Possibilities for the free trial include Ted Leo, Comet Gain (a personal favorite), any number of Atavistic releases, Sonic Youth, Dressy Bessy, Stereolab, Kim Fowley, John Coltrane and so on.

Am I the only one who hasn't been able to access gabba.net for the past few days?

www.slsknet.org is up, thanks (and unlike kazaa lite, it lets me connect). i may check out this emusic.com thing tomorrow, thanks for that too.

oh my god i'm so glad i'm not in college anymore. i guess you're not on a mac, but if you are u can try limewire or acquisition, but they're not as good (read: fruitful) as audiogalaxy used to be

Vic (Vic), Monday, 15 September 2003 04:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Audiogalaxy (RIP) was great, but since then I've become a big fan of WinMX (http://www.winmx.com), even thought it tends to get very little love in the P2P world. I have no idea why many people don't like it - I like the 'ping' feature, and I tend to have pretty good luck finding a wide range of stuff. And it's got no sypware, etc. I am tempted to focus my efforts on SoulSeek instead, but every time I've actually gone to make the leap, it's been down...

oops. meant to say 'spyware'. a little slippy on the keyboard this morning...

vic they're not just obsessed listening, they SCREAM ALONG. and not just with the stereo on, in the DINING HALLS.

anyway. i shall go download some better emo to combat them now.

www.neo-modus.com

Direct Connect is the shit

take the cord off a blender or a micriovave oven, right? you cut it off and you cut the ends off and then you take your stereo. you put the end of the wire (might need to strip it) and put it in one of the holes in back of yr stereo. take the other end and put it in the internet. you turn up the volume and let 'er rip! long live rock n'roll!
