Who are the three guitarists in Iron Maiden now?

Ha - they were on TOTP an had three fat old geezers wielding axes (as well as fat old Steve Harris on bass). Just wondered who they were - in the pub afterwards we couldn't remember any old IM guitarists names. Jannick Gers? Is he one?

Also Bruce Dickinson still sounds fairly fearsome - how do you do that operatic howl without shredding yer vocal cords?

Side point - since this thread will prob. be an Alex in NYC magnet - I just noticed the backing vocals for Sugar Minott's ' The People Got To know' are thus : "Oh yes the people ought to know [Honour, Honour the Fire]/Brimstone and Fire [Honour, Honour, Honour The Fire]"

Jannick Gers, Dave Murray and Adrian Smith.

Phil Freeman (Phil Freeman), Monday, 15 September 2003 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Are they fat? I mean, when I saw them a few weeks back I was near the back of the venue but they didn't seem particularly lumbering (if anything Gers was adept at showing how well he could sling his guitar around rather than actually playing the damn thing).

Bruce looks pretty buff though. He needs to be with all the running and flying and jumping he did.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 15 September 2003 15:01 (twenty-two years ago)

When I saw them on their Bruce reunion tour a couple of years ago, they were all remarkably un-fat except for Nicko (and he can slouch behind his massive kit, so it doesn't really matter).

No one has actually told me anything about what the new album is like though. :(

I've heard it! Coworker picked it up last week and we listened to it on Thursday. It sounds like Bruce-led Iron Maiden, no more or less -- further confirming my "IM are like the Ramones in that X = X" approach.

The new album is okay, I like Dance of Death the song.

LOTS OF 7MIN+ SONGS, YAY!

The record is much stronger than I expected it to be. I like it a bunch, particularly the title track. I hated the single ("Wildest Dreams") when I first heard it (and the video is total cheese), but it's growing on me.

Phil Freeman (Phil Freeman), Monday, 15 September 2003 16:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I heard it recently and was pleasantly suprised. I liked the would-be epic Monsignor (sp??) that was about Christians killing people or something. Whatever it was, Bruce had himself worked up into a lather about it....

Matt Helgeson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 15 September 2003 16:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Whoops, missed this one until too late. In any event, Dave Murray, Adrian Smith and the entirely embarassing Jannick Gers (which I'm probably misspelling).

They're not fat (well, Adrian could probably lose a few pounds), but they are looking old. Jannick especially needs to be jettisoned from the proceedings.

Steve Harris isn't fat. Old, yes, but not fat (...and I doubt the same can be said for Dr.C).

'Honour the Fire', incidentally, has nothing to do with Iron Maiden. If you're intent on properly ridiculing Maiden, might I suggest saying "Up the Hammers" and/or "Up the Irons". You're welcome.

Hey, be nice. I've seen his photos and he's a fine figure of a man.

**Steve Harris isn't fat. Old, yes, but not fat (...and I doubt the same can be said for Dr.C)**

Damn. Got me there, Alex. Yes, I am morbidly obese as the London ILX massive will testify. (..waddles away in shame...)

Dr. C (Dr. C), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 06:21 (twenty-two years ago)

How do they split rhythm and lead 'duties' then? I thought metallers were always sticklers for having this well defined.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 11:21 (twenty-two years ago)

They each take their turn preening respectively, as they noodle furiously on their flying V's (actually, none of them play those anymore). Dave Murray tends to just hold his guitar aloft during solos, whereas Adrian stands legs akimbo, throws his his shoulders back and gives it some furrowed-brow oncentration, whereas Jannick dances around like a hyperactive gibbon. I have the slight suspicion that Jannick isn't plugged in three quarters of the time.

...and I dare suggest that I probably weigh more than the good Dr.C.

If we count your mullet, then yes possibly.

I'm not entirely sure what ONCENTRATION is, now that I look back, but it still seems accurate.
