UK TOP 40 PREDICTION LEAGUE WEEK TWELVE SUPER SPECIAL EDITION!!!!

Right. Now, as you may have noticed, I fucked up last week, haven't had time to put together a proper set of picks or anything this week. So what we will do instead is this.

Predict the whole of the top 40. Every entry, every position, tutti del shitti. We will score it with ten points for every correct position, plus ten for the number one. The one and two place either side rules will apply for new entries only.

Last Week's Top 40 Is Here.

I'll link to new releases as and when I can find a half-decent list of them.

I'd suggest this is an ideal week for new types to join in also, cos the potential points haul is masssssiiiivvvveee...

And let's have a ten point bonus for the random number an' all:

#6

Deadline... fuck it. Possibly Friday, so it happens before CD:UK. But possibly not.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 09:55 (twenty-two years ago)

If anyone can help with release schedule, this would be nice. Currently we appear to have:

Westlife
Timberlake
Nickelback
Bizkit
Rachel S Club
Interpol
Jamelia
Siobhan D
So Solid
Louise
Million Dan
Mary J

But I might have missed some. I'm fairly sure Rancid have a single out, for instance... would that have a shot at the 40?

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 10:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Yep, I forgot the Chemical Brothers for starters...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 10:13 (twenty-two years ago)

There is another dread release for this week that I've seen advertised on TV - namely the new piece o' crap from Limp Bizkit, which is on sale for one week only.

In a perfect world even such a strategy would prevent this from even making the top 40, but is this a perfect world?

M Carty (mj_c), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 10:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Oops - just saw Bizkit on the list. Excuse me.

M Carty (mj_c), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 10:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Is there a website which lists upcoming big single releases?

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 11:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes. But I've totally forgotten where it is.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 12:30 (twenty-two years ago)

this one?

Siegbran (eofor), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

i think new singles from Metallica, Placebo, and (the horror! the horror!) Sting are also out this week.

Neil FC (Neil FC), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 13:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Thank you Mr Hetteson - the specific page would be this one.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 14:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I do hope that new Fast Food Rockers single doesn't really exist.

robin carmody (robin carmody), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 16:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Tom May (Tom May), Thursday, 18 September 2003 13:46 (twenty-two years ago)

that Top 40 charts website always gets release dates wrong for singles - as does dotmusic a lot of the time...but never mind, I'll do my entry shortly

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 18 September 2003 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I used dotmusic.co.uk's release schedule as my source for singles released this week (but it had Interpol and others as last week???)

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 18 September 2003 17:39 (twenty-two years ago)

this is all a bit unfair because different sources report different release dates. BBC's Top Of The Pops says that Delta Goodrem, Evanescence and Lene Marlin are all released THIS Monday, so that fucks my chart up completely - hmph

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 18 September 2003 17:49 (twenty-two years ago)

here's a revised 40 going by top40 charts site which DOES seem more accurate this time. if you feel this is unfair me re-submitting then ignore this post and just accept my earlier one (but i was misinformed by what should be the most accurate source!)

OK, no deadline. We've only got four or five picks at the moment, so it'd be nice if more people came in...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 19 September 2003 11:24 (twenty-two years ago)

this is the worst idea since my 'pick which minutes you think a goal might be scored in the Man Utd v Arsenal match this Sunday' thing ;)

stevem (blueski), Friday, 19 September 2003 11:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude, I don't think I can do this.

it really is the worst Chemical Brothers single ever

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 21 September 2003 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

i haven't even heard this Jamelia track yet (but 'Bout' was pretty good)

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 21 September 2003 13:28 (twenty-two years ago)

the only reason i think Fannypack might make the top 40 is because they played the video on CD:UK (!!!!) a few weeks back

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 21 September 2003 13:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I'm gonna reset the league this week, cos there's less than half the peeps here and points hauls this week will be very large... so I'll tot it all up today, then a whole new league starting next week and running up to the Christmas #1.

And then next year, we might have something a bit interesting happening (TBC)...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 21 September 2003 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Argh. I have to update this, don't I? Bugger.

40 Stripes

37 Fo'Real
36 Girls Aloud

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 21 September 2003 14:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Argh. I have to update this, don't I? Bugger.

40 Stripes
39 Stones
38 Boosted
37 Fo'Real
36 Girls Aloud
35 Beyonce & Jay-Z, going back up a place. Probably at the expense of both Million Dan and Siobhan D. GRR.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 21 September 2003 14:44 (twenty-two years ago)

That was incredibly intentional, BTW. Stop sniggering at the back.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 21 September 2003 14:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Junior Jack is new at 34.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 21 September 2003 14:48 (twenty-two years ago)

what's going on? are we starting the league anew?

cool.

lid, Sunday, 21 September 2003 14:49 (twenty-two years ago)

12 more new entries this week.

Lid - yes.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 21 September 2003 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Jaimeson is #33.

No-one has managed to score anything yet, I don't think...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 21 September 2003 14:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Arsehailer #32, Kontakt #31, Sting #30.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 21 September 2003 14:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Lisa Scott-Lee #29 - me, Alex and Ed all get 10.

Ed also got 10 for Arsehailer earlier.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 21 September 2003 15:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Abs is #28 - 10 for Alex & Joni.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 21 September 2003 15:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Arsehailer is the best name for Starsailor possible... without using the word "cunts".

edward o (edwardo), Sunday, 21 September 2003 15:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Placebo are NEW at #27 - 10 for Tom, 1 for Alex.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 21 September 2003 15:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Curses. I knew I shouldn't have let the fact that it's their best single since "You Don't Care About Us" blind me to the chart rule of diminishing returns...

edward o (edwardo), Sunday, 21 September 2003 15:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Linkin Park #26, Lumidee #25, Kelly Clarkson #24.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 21 September 2003 15:15 (twenty-two years ago)

And I'm not really in a position to update scores at the moment... Muse #19.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 21 September 2003 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Mary J #18, Chems #17.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 21 September 2003 15:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow... ;-) Numbers #17 and #16 (Ultrabeat) please me, predictions-wise! Is that 20 points...?

Tom May (Tom May), Sunday, 21 September 2003 15:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Ultrabeat #16, Gawiff #15.

Tom - yes, presumably. I haven't checked.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 21 September 2003 15:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Xtina #14, and - oh no! Justin! #13! Oh No!

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 21 September 2003 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I KNEW Justin wouldn't do very well! The spell has been broken! Shame I didn't actually put him at 12 like I was going to.

edward o (edwardo), Sunday, 21 September 2003 16:00 (twenty-two years ago)

And here's Sean n' Blu at #12. Ehhhhh.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 21 September 2003 16:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Elton is #11, Bizkit new at #10.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 21 September 2003 16:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Six new entries left, not numbering Siobhan, Million Dan or Interpol among them. Bugger.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 21 September 2003 16:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Fuck, that Limp Bizkit song has to be the worst thing to chart ever.

Siegbran (eofor), Sunday, 21 September 2003 16:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Dear United Kingdom,

You have bad taste. You make Limp Bizkit top ten but you can't take the lovely Siobhan to heart. Go on, LOOK AT HER! She is lovely! Didn't you like the way her voice trembled oh so slightly on "Overload"? Didn't you? Oh you fuckers...

Love, Edward.

edward o (edwardo), Sunday, 21 September 2003 16:17 (twenty-two years ago)

only Lemar so far - been 1 away with quite a few :(
