I wish every CD was issued in a mini-LP jacket.

You mean just a cardboard sleeve? Or something more elaborate?

That would be pretty awful; it's nice that things take less space, but I prefer the sturdiness of jewel cases. I always imagine that I'm going to scratch the CD when I take one out of one of those mini-LP jackets, and ones like Alice Coltrane's Universal Consciousness suck, just because it's such a frigging job to get the thing into the case!

Oh well, at least they're better than digipa[c]ks.

But I'm voting dud, even if you didn't give the option.

Classic. I just wish they didn't mostly come from Japan and cost $30.

the 4 neil young reissues from last month were all released in this format (i believe they are listed as "vinyl replica" style), as well as in standard jewel case form. i have them in the vinyl replica style, with the little sleeves inside, and i love them!

i held out on buying the last remasters of the King Crimson catalogue until I could hunt them all down in this format. They are excellent! but if you didn't originally buy LPs I guess the thrill wouldn't be there. They do wear down but I'm not much bothered by that, I like the booklets and black envelope sleeves.

My only complaint is that yes, they can sometimes be tough to get out of the sleeve, and put back in. But they just look so much better than jewel cases. Double-LP style sleeves are even better, because then you get the big mural artwork.

Whoa, Bob Shaw - which country are you in? I didn't see these 'vinyl replica style' Neil reissues in the US (Boston, Newbury Comics to be specific). If you're in the US, where did you get 'em? I'm jealous!

Maybe the solution is to make CDs and CD players bigger - LP size. Crazy? Yes, but these are crazy times.
