Kinda bland, but better than most of Up and Lotus.

Isn't it an old song they've played live forever and finally recorded? I dig.

er... Up and Reveal, that is. "Lotus" was one of the songs I liked.

up is a very under-rated album, don't you think?

i agree. i think up is really good.

"Reveal" is the most underrated R.E.M. album ever (actually the best ever)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Sunday, 21 September 2003 13:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah "Bad Day" is from the LRP sessions (according to the interweb). I could swear I've heard it on even earlier boots, like from Tyrone's '80-'82, but I don't have them around to check.

I haven't had a chance to hear the song yet (work computer, dig?) but the visuals make it one of my top 3 fave R.E.M. videos of all time. Have they ever looked so alert?

Up isn't perfect but definitely has value. Reveal is an album only Geir could love.

i don't remember it being ona ny pre-84 boot, but i could be wrong.

it was so, so weird seeing this on tv the other day, and indeed at glastonbury; i associate this song with my geeky rem-fan past, and not at all with 2003.

Anna (Anna), Sunday, 21 September 2003 16:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I recall hearing them play it live in the background of an 1985 or '86 MTV news story about them.

I saw the video, rather amusing, Michael Stipe looked old.

Is it just me, or does this song sound too similar to "Its the End of the World"? Its not a bad song though, more back to form than recent stuff, and I too love the clip, its quite clever. Even if Stipey is looking a bit haggard these days.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 22 September 2003 06:14 (twenty-two years ago)

trayce, that's exactly what i thought when i heard it on the radio.

blue (blue), Monday, 22 September 2003 07:59 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, this sounds very very like "its the end of...". it's almost humorous just how much of an REM Song this is - there's definitely no way they can pretend this one marks a new chapter in their "continued" "evolution" anyway.

i actually think its quite good, despite this. it's like an idlewild song, i suppose - a nice composite of some of the things that make REM great, but slightly too over-familiar to be a classic. it steers clear of the saccharine arrangements that spoiled "reveal" anyway.
