Where are the best places to look online for old(er) vinyl? I'm looking for Mazzy Star's So Tonight That I Might See and the "Fade Into You" 10" - but the copies on Ebay are already up to $35ish apiece with three days to go.

Back when the library still had vinyl I borrowed 'She Hangs Brightly' and then told them I lost it

dave q you bad bad man.
TS : stealing from a library vs. stealing from a charity shop.

she hangs brightly vinyl >$100 on ebay

the surface noise (electricsound), Sunday, 21 September 2003 23:27 (twenty-two years ago)

really?!?!
i might sell mine then...
do opal records sell for a lot as well?
(not that i'd sell those, mind)

joni, Sunday, 21 September 2003 23:38 (twenty-two years ago)

only 'early recordings' on cd

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 22 September 2003 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

their vinyl is all but worthless

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 22 September 2003 00:01 (twenty-two years ago)

hey, i've got early recordings on cd!
not selling though......i've been looking for
the two 12"s for years now, surely they must be
worth something?i also remember reading ages
ago about a second Rough Trade LP making it to
test pressing stage.....

**she hangs brightly vinyl >$100 on ebay**

Whoa! I'm selling mine then. It ain't *that* good.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Monday, 22 September 2003 10:13 (twenty-two years ago)

It's £35 on Netsounds.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Monday, 22 September 2003 10:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Just go to GEMM.

Jez (Jez), Monday, 22 September 2003 11:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Oops - I see the problem...not much in the way of vinyl. Sorry...

Jez (Jez), Monday, 22 September 2003 11:21 (twenty-two years ago)

100 bucks?? jeez, i'd let go of mine, but it's just too damned good and my fetishistic side associates that piece of vinyl with too many good memories..

Fabrice (Fabfunk), Monday, 22 September 2003 11:23 (twenty-two years ago)

joni if you want the Opal 12"s i have both...

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 22 September 2003 12:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Hang on a mo', I've got the album if you want it! I got into the band purely because of Halah on the first album...I never really listen to the second. We could do a trade if you like. I'll mail you to this effect.

It ain't *that* good.

heresy

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 22 September 2003 12:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmm...maybe I could sell that 10" of "Fade Into You". She Hangs Brightly isn't going anywhere. Once a year I like to dig that out, chill the flat down to 10C and drink a bottle of Thunderbird in memory of postgrad idiocies. Playing a CD-R of the thing would be like substituting Blue Nun.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Monday, 22 September 2003 13:00 (twenty-two years ago)

esoj, you lucky man!
i assume that the tracks on the opal 12"s are the same versions as
on the LPs? the only non-lp track is 'freight train', right?
are you on slsk? questions questions questions......

joni, Monday, 22 September 2003 13:38 (twenty-two years ago)

is among my swan worth anything?

ron (ron), Monday, 22 September 2003 18:13 (twenty-two years ago)

haha, i never thought my most valuable record was by mazzy star. i like it, and all...but WTF???

gaz (gaz), Monday, 22 September 2003 21:44 (twenty-two years ago)

actually i think all the tracks on the two 12" singles are on "early recordings", hmm i might check. as far as i'm aware there are only 2 tracks not on either of their 2 albums (one on a chemical imabalance 7" and one on a Syd Barrett tribute, both of which i have and potentially could share..)

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 22 September 2003 22:12 (twenty-two years ago)

according to this site http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Palms/9191/discogra.htm there was a rough trade 12" with a song on it called 'freight train' which was not on early recordings? i'd really like to hear it because
1. i love opal
2. it might be a cover of 'freight train', a song made famous by nancy whiskey, and a song i really love. i was lucky enough to meet nancy 'the queen of skiffle' a few times before she sadly died this year, so i'm more than slightly interested in hearing this song!

joni, Monday, 22 September 2003 22:44 (twenty-two years ago)

hmmmmm. i'll check my copy when i get home, but it's not the rough trade version. i wasn't aware rough trade had released any of the Opal singles.

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 22 September 2003 23:05 (twenty-two years ago)

The last She Hangs Brightly LP on ebay sold for much less than a $100.

Hildy, Monday, 22 September 2003 23:32 (twenty-two years ago)

fair enough. the one i saw was a little while ago
