this song is so beautiful and happy. i'm so glad it's starting to get some heavy airplay here, they even play the whole long thing.

i think it's sad

jones (actual), Sunday, 21 September 2003 18:46 (twenty-two years ago)

clapping in the name of love is lonely

jones (actual), Sunday, 21 September 2003 18:46 (twenty-two years ago)

i think i need to go outside

jones (actual), Sunday, 21 September 2003 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

man this completely sounds like it should be on What's Going On. i almost feel like he's got marvin's ghost actually singing on the track.

not a bad song, but for some reason the mp3 of it i have has a really annoying tick on most of the claps. it's way louder than the rest of the track. i'm not sure if this is on the cd and it's poor production or if it's just bad encoding?

JasonD (JasonD), Sunday, 21 September 2003 20:58 (twenty-two years ago)

bad encoding - the production is buttery ultra smooth... how could you suggest otherwise, this is r we are talking about!

minna (minna), Monday, 22 September 2003 03:02 (twenty-two years ago)

one month passes...
I would like to state once again how much I love this song. It seems to be on the radio roughly 50% of the time when I turn it on, and I never get sick of it.

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 07:47 (twenty-two years ago)

the video's way cute. all the older couples dressed in white dancing. and zoro dancing like James Brown

I love this song , everybody has to love this song , it's the best song I've heard in a long time. R. Kelly's songs are all soo good.

holly summers, Friday, 16 January 2004 17:22 (twenty-two years ago)

can't believe you all leave your conscience at the door. r kelly is a creep. and if i hear him roll out his "afterparty/hotel lobby" bullshit once more...

paulhw (paulhw), Friday, 16 January 2004 17:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Generic Rap Song

$$, Friday, 16 January 2004 17:43 (twenty-two years ago)

This might be my favorite R. Kelly song ever.

Andy K (Andy K), Friday, 16 January 2004 17:57 (twenty-two years ago)

If I were to eliminate the creeps from my record collection, I probably wouldn't have a record collection.

Andy K (Andy K), Friday, 16 January 2004 18:08 (twenty-two years ago)

definitely my favorite of all the Chocolate Factory singles.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 16 January 2004 22:30 (twenty-two years ago)

That woman he dances with in the video has some great big womanly thighs. I love-hate that video.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Saturday, 17 January 2004 02:22 (twenty-two years ago)

M Matos (M Matos), Saturday, 17 January 2004 02:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Speaking of which, have we all read the new Richard Goldstein essay on R. Kelly and Michael Jackson yet?

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Saturday, 17 January 2004 02:52 (twenty-two years ago)

does it ever dawn on people that the reason he's doing so well right now might have something to do with the fact that he's making the best music of his career?

M Matos (M Matos), Saturday, 17 January 2004 02:55 (twenty-two years ago)

"As for Jacko: If he wants to save his career, he'll have to start fooling around with 14-year-old girls."

no, dumbass, he'll have to start making good records again.

M Matos (M Matos), Saturday, 17 January 2004 02:56 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, you would think the whole pissing thing would be, like, an impediment and the quality of the work is what has pulled him through.

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 17 January 2004 02:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Jesus, has there been a review of Chocolate Factory or R in R&B Collection that DIDN'T mention the child abuse charges? I mean, rightly so! but Goldstein seems to think it's all a big joke to people, and I don't really see that being the case.

M Matos (M Matos), Saturday, 17 January 2004 02:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Matos on point. If Michael Jackson could make one single even a quarter as good as "I Want You Back," all would be forgiven/ignored/minimized. Unfortunately, MJ has not made a good song since "Jam," so it's the hoosegow for Jacko

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Saturday, 17 January 2004 03:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Goldstein is conveniently ignoring the influence of the Bayeux Tapestry of Dysfunction that has been Jackson's public life for the last twenty-plus years -- peeing on underaged girls, however twisted or illegal it is, is in comparison nowhere near as audience-alienating as the plastic surgery and the baby-dangling and the hyperbaric chambers and Bubbles the Chimp and the "Jew me" line and the mannequins and the...

Goldstein fucks up because he's so insistent on viewing the seeming inconsistency of the public reaction to these similiar-ish scandals solely through the prism of gender (with, oh, maybe a quick glimpse of the race prism) when there's so much OTHER ones to look at, too. Like, class (or wealth), authenticity, music quality etc.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Saturday, 17 January 2004 03:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I just blogged this: http://m-matos.blogspot.com/2004_01_01_m-matos_archive.html#107430951924829264

M Matos (M Matos), Saturday, 17 January 2004 03:22 (twenty-two years ago)

R. referring to himself as the Pied Piper kind of freaks me out.

bnw (bnw), Monday, 19 January 2004 07:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I will certainly grant you that.

M Matos (M Matos), Monday, 19 January 2004 07:50 (twenty-two years ago)

That and the fact that "like the sun" he just wants to "shine on everybody".

the icebox (nordicskilla), Monday, 19 January 2004 10:21 (twenty-two years ago)

that's a lot more ambiguous, though

M Matos (M Matos), Monday, 19 January 2004 10:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I mean, he doesn't say "just like the sun, I'd like to spread my golden showers all over you, little girl" or anything, you know?

M Matos (M Matos), Monday, 19 January 2004 10:25 (twenty-two years ago)

It's still there beneath the surface for me.

the icebox (nordicskilla), Monday, 19 January 2004 10:30 (twenty-two years ago)

whatever you say, DeRo

two weeks pass...
my letter to the editor, and Goldstein's reply: http://www.villagevoice.com/letters/

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 20:52 (twenty-two years ago)

His reply seems sorta cryptic.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 20:56 (twenty-two years ago)

OK Matos, but I guess "the best music of his career" is still cheesy, annoying, empty, and soulless. he has so few ideas, it hurts me to think of it as r 'n b.

paulhw (paulhw), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 21:55 (twenty-two years ago)

haha do alert us when you've removed the cloth from yr ears, won't you?

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 21:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't worry Paul without him it's just N'B so you can like that instead.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 21:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I only like the "and" part anyway.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 22:06 (twenty-two years ago)

but do you really like his voice? the ridiculous multi-tracking? the way he's rhymed "hotel lobby" with "freak somebody" about 9 times? the fact that he's blotted hov's history forever?

paulhw (paulhw), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 22:25 (twenty-two years ago)

haha WHY WOULD I SAY I LIKE HIS MUSIC IF I DIDN'T LIKE IT?!

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 23:13 (twenty-two years ago)

maybe you're taking the piss?

andrew s (andrew s), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 23:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 23:46 (twenty-two years ago)

as much as I enjoy the new album, this song crushes everything on it

manthony m1cc1o (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 11 September 2004 23:44 (twenty-one years ago)
