ALL-NEW UK Top 40 Prediction League - WEEK #1

Yep, I've reset it, cos the old one was getting a bit unwieldy and Alex had obviously won by a rather silly distance.

So then. This time, it's got a definite finish date, that being the Christmas #1 chart (December 21st).

Rules are: I select a number of singles released on Monday (always at least ten, sometimes more), and you predict where they end up in the chart next Sunday. Points are scored as follows:

Correct position - 10 pts.
Getting position wrong by one either way - 5 pts
Getting position wrong by two either way - 1 pt
Correctly picking the number one record - 10 pts

There are also ten bonus points for picking the record at a certain randomly selected position in the chart, which changes each week.

The deadline for predictions is now mid-day on Tuesday.

All are welcome.

This week's picks are:

RILO KILEY - The Execution Of All Things
YEAH YEAH YEAHS - Maps
EVANESCENCE - Going Under
THE DARKNESS - I Believe In A Thing Called Love
ATHLETE - You Got The Style

Siegbran (eofor), Monday, 22 September 2003 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Shit, just realised - I can't check the top 100 anymore. So keep the usual scores, but if you predict something as finishing outside the top 75 and are correct then you get 5 points.

Was going to wishful-thinking-ly go for Darkness as #1 but who am I to fly in face of popular consensus? It so would rool if was though yes.

Neil FC (Neil FC), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Please Sir, excuse Neil from handing in his homework late as he hasn't been feeling well today, and hasn't sneaked a peek at the mid-week charts.

Mrs. Neil FC

Neil FC (Neil FC), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 14:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Neil, yer in, this week.

New Season kicks off... smell the tension...

Beyonce is #40.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 28 September 2003 14:37 (twenty-two years ago)

And is followed by Busted. I am drowning in thrill.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 28 September 2003 14:44 (twenty-two years ago)

But it's our first points, as the Foos limp in at 37, garnering a massive 1 point for Scott James, which makes him the early leader.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 28 September 2003 14:45 (twenty-two years ago)

The Foo Fighters really are dreadful, aren't they?

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 28 September 2003 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, this is a massively boring single. If I'd have heard it before filing my predictions I wouldn't have placed is as high. Anyway, 10 new entries to go...does that mean that Rilo Kiley and Athlete haven't made the top 40?

Siegbran (eofor), Sunday, 28 September 2003 14:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd reckon so. If ver Kiley have made the top 75 I'd be stunned, even though it is the best single out this week (read: single this week that sounds most like The Delgados).

However, I know there's at least one new entry that I didn't put in the picks, which means one other single has missed out. And I know what it is, if I remember the midweeks right.

I'm not telling.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 28 September 2003 14:53 (twenty-two years ago)

And here's The Chemical Brothers. Things can only get better. Hopefully.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 28 September 2003 14:54 (twenty-two years ago)

But hey, suddenly it's Lemar followed by Lumidee and Will's mood ring is glowing 'yes', particularly considering they skipped right over Kelly Clarkson.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 28 September 2003 15:02 (twenty-two years ago)

YYY's #26 - me and Alex storm into the joint lead with ten each, five for Siegbran and Fishman, and one for Tom May.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 28 September 2003 15:09 (twenty-two years ago)

And Feeder are #24 - Fishman scores ten and takes the lead outright, with Joni picking up five.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 28 September 2003 15:12 (twenty-two years ago)

And Clea are #21 - Siegbran gets 5.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 28 September 2003 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

And a whole new world of "Looking forward to their second single" jokes emerges over the horizon...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 28 September 2003 15:21 (twenty-two years ago)

And Jurgen Vries is #20 - five for Siegbran puts him joint first...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 28 September 2003 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

#17 any second now...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 28 September 2003 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

It's Louise.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 28 September 2003 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

No points, obv.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 28 September 2003 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

And here's Metallica entering at #16, several years after they were meant to. This is the one that missed the picks this week.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 28 September 2003 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

have the final total scores for the previous game been done yet? seeing as i'm gonna score feck all in this new one...

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 28 September 2003 15:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Er, no. Because I have forgotten. I think you were second, probably.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 28 September 2003 15:48 (twenty-two years ago)

hooray!

( /\ imagine pic of that dude from the Simpsons in the multi-axled car)

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 28 September 2003 15:50 (twenty-two years ago)

And I've managed to miss two new entries in the picks, cos here's the UD Project at #14.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 28 September 2003 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Delta is #9, and Hetteson is on FI-YAH, picking up ten to pull even further ahead of everyone else...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 28 September 2003 16:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Mighty Evs #8 mightily - 10 for Jel, Ed and Neil, five for Dom, Alex and Joni, and one for Tom May.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 28 September 2003 16:18 (twenty-two years ago)

So here's the Darkness at #2. Which means BEP are #1. And the new points and picks will be up soon enough.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 28 September 2003 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Athlete #42, Tim Deluxe #45, Outkast #55, Rilo Kiley outside the top 75. This only really benefits Scott, who gets 10 for Athlete, and Steve, who gets five for Rilo Kiley.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 28 September 2003 17:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Scores all done and dusted (I'm second!), but I'll sort out the picks tomorrow morning in a whole new thread.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 28 September 2003 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)
