perhaps you are thinking about an american equivalent of the smiths? i think axl rose is closer to the morrissey archetype than old Docklands Light Railway

the missing link is liberace, i feel all these people are closing in on liberace as they age

I recently had an unpleasant experience listening to 1984. It really wasn't DLR's fault (the band's synth and Zep/Rush pretensions did it really), but I want to vote for Morrissey cuz he was still kicking ass well into the '90s.

Valid point. By the time Morrissey was promoting Your Arsenal, DLR was already a nostalgia act (and a bad one at that).

Subthread: Viva Hate vs. Eat 'em and Smile

Viva (Though I prefer Bona Drag). I've never understood the love for Eat 'Em And Smile.

the spanish version of Yankee Rose is a shimmering golden godsend

eh?

I never thought of Morrissey's performance style as particularly kick ass. And while I'm not an enormous fan of DLR, it cannot be denied that his style is dynamic.

kicking ass = making really good albums

sorry to confuse

live, fine, I guess DLR wins.

Vauxhall & I is a great great great album

Only solo DLR I know is "Just a Gigolo" and "California Girls" -- great videos!!

Sonny A. (Keiko), Sunday, 21 September 2003 23:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I love DLR to death, but I vote for Morrissey just because Van Halen did manage probably a handful of good songs here and there with Hagar, whereas look at Johnny Marr's career post Moz – flatline......

Morrisey's certainly aged better than poor Dave.

Personally, I find them both to be as dynamic as a roll of paper towels, although I'd pay a dollar to see Moressee jump off of the drum riser and do the splits in mid-air, and David LeRoth staple the back of his hand to his forehead.

It's a split. You have to give "more integral" crown to Morrissy based on the fact that The Smiths never replaced him with, I dunno, Brett Anderson or somebody to go on making hit records like he never even existed. But Diamond Dave should get the "more dynamic" crown for his aerial maneuvers.

Duh, what a stupid question.

You may as well ask: who took the most drugs / has the most money

Ozzy or Bill Gates?

Reginald Dellos Tools (regtools), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 14:28 (twenty-two years ago)

looking at how .NET and hailstorm works, I'd say Bill Gates is surely doing his fair share of drugs.

He did drop acid a couple of times in the Seventies.
