'My Way'

dave q, Tuesday, 23 September 2003 09:22 (twenty-two years ago)

'My Way' if only because the chorus to 'Rollin'' is ass-gaspingly terrible.

Andrew (enneff), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 09:23 (twenty-two years ago)

also, crap vs crap. the choice is very hard.

nathalie (nathalie), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 10:56 (twenty-two years ago)

wes is better on 'rollin', durst on 'my way'. fuck - I guess it is 'rollin'!

cinniblount (James Blount), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 11:26 (twenty-two years ago)

to be honest durst is so bizarre, awful, and bizarrely awful on 'rollin' that he's alot more listenable there (in the same way that carcrashes are more watchable than paintdrying).

cinniblount (James Blount), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 11:29 (twenty-two years ago)

"My Way" by a country mile. (Of course, travelling that country mile still leaves you somewhere stranded in the middle of Genital Torture Hell, but you gotta make do with what you've got.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 14:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I used to work in this restaurant and whenever "Rollin" came on and it went "rollin rollin rollin..." we'd all yell "BLUNTS!". So, uh, "Rollin".

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 14:42 (twenty-two years ago)

'Rollin' has an amazing chorus. My brother says the distorion on the guitars is called "cheese", i think that's wicked. Everyone loves Freeway and Ghost for sounding high-strung and on the verge of tears and 'hyper-emotional'; this is an attribute to Fred's voice that i think should recieve more praise. I think Limp Bizkit are one of the better rock bands that have come out in the last few years. I think it's a bit boring after awhile reading some people's attempt at funny criticism especially as people don't ever give a proper reason for disliking Limp apart from the usual Vice-esque wilfully kerrrrrrazy one-linerz.

You'd prefer a 10,000 word disquistion that still boils down to 'they suck'?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

ned otm

maura (maura), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Jesus you lot are predictable. But why don't you like the song? One-linerz are great and often funny as long as they amount to more than just the usual high-fiving condescending indie-geek 'my music is better than yours' back-slapping bullshit.

cat, Tuesday, 23 September 2003 15:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't like either song because I really, really, REALLY hate Fred's squeaky upper-range thing and he used it all over the place on both of these songs. Contrast with "Nookie", where he pretty much stays in a regular speaking register and as such doesn't come across like a whiny tool.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 15:33 (twenty-two years ago)

(Put another way, "Fred sucks.")

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 15:33 (twenty-two years ago)

indie-geek

Hm, you don't know Maura that well, for instance.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

definitely 'Rollin' (good intro) - 'My Way' is rub

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

'Rollin' also better for that conversation Durst has with himself in the form of the second verse ("you don't wanna mess with limp bizkit" "why?" "cos no-one messes with limp bizkit" etc.) altho it can't compete with System Of A Down's cute equivalents

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)

The chorus of "Rollin" is also brilliant because it straddles the line between giving out directions to a dance designed by Fred ("Move in Move Out, Hands Up Hands Down") and Fred challenging us to a fight "Back Up Back Up, Tell Me What You Gonna Do Now?"
I don't dislike "My Way" neccessarily but it has less joyfully exuberent highs than "Rollin." No?

theodore fogelsanger, Tuesday, 23 September 2003 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

why didn't you make it break stuff vs nookie!

minna (minna), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 16:47 (twenty-two years ago)

These were two big singles for Soggy Digestive so to me it's odd that they're both kind of covers, one is nicked off Frank Sinatra, the other is the theme to Rawhide.

I prefer the theme to rawhide.

mei (mei), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 17:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I love both songs ("My Way" made my Pazz & Jop Ballot in 2001 and "Rollin'" would have undoubtedly made mine if I had one in 2000) but I'm gonna have to give it to "Rollin'" The song is a perfect amalgam of three huge white-rap singles of the previous few years. Limp Bizkit's "Nookie," Eminem's "My Name Is" (the whole "You wanna mess with Limp Bizkit? 'yeah!' You Can't mess with Limp Bizkit" part) and Kid Rock's "Bawitdaba" (the props that make up the final verse). Cinniblount is pretty OTM about the bizarre awful stuff, though I found personally that the aweful soon became awe. As I said in another Limp Bizkit thread, I like my singers shameless and inspired. "My Way" is more universal (plus that who'd a thunk it rhyme of "leave your shit" and "leadership"), but "Rollin'" trips me out every time.

Oh, and "Nookie" beats "Break Stuff." Though again I love both.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 24 September 2003 02:38 (twenty-two years ago)

also, judging by the evidence on the disappointing Results May Vary Durst's shamelessness and inspiration are directly linked. His voice sounds less whiny now and it (along with Borland's absence) is making the songs less memorable.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 24 September 2003 02:42 (twenty-two years ago)

i used to think fred durst's squeaky voice was almost cute. as in "aw he's really getting all riled up about whatever it is he's all riled up about." but soon afterwards i realized it's just an unpleasant sound. i prefer my way to rollin tho, if for no other reason than "my way, my way or the highway" is both kinda catchy and something my grandmother would say.
