Almost definitely a repost, so forgive me... where does S0u1seek fit in with this RIAA thing?

I'm sure this has had it's own thread, but I can't find one and the serach engine is overloaded. So, if someone could just give me a little info I'd be grateful. So far, I have yet to see S0u1seek come up at all in the RIAA discussions. Why is this? Are S0u1seek users safe? Or are they next?

we're probably next. Soulseek hasnt been publicized nearly as much, and the lawsuits are more symbolic than anything, so theyre aiming at the figureheads.

Soulseek also doesn't cover mainstream, major label music as much as Kazaa etc. although i'm sure it won't be long til they set their targets on it.

Hey, what's slsk's new website?

Sonny A. (Keiko), Friday, 26 September 2003 20:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Soulseek is nowhere NEAR as big as Kazaa. In the mainstream discussions of this kind of thing it's never mentioned - Grokster, Gnutella and (in Europe) eDonkey crop up a lot more. Kazaa's US website audience is about 19 million a month, soulseek probably gets about 2% of that. The RIAA could decide to crush slsk like an ant but it's concentrating on Kazaa at the moment.

Soulseek seems to draw in serious music fans, looking for unreleased albums and more rare stuff. The RIAA probably realizes this and won't bother them (as much).

It's purely a size thing milo - also my investigations into the UK No.1 hits, conducted via soulseek, suggest that there are plenty of people on it sharing every possible brand of crap :)

Tom (Groke), Friday, 26 September 2003 21:21 (twenty-two years ago)

You mean I am not the only collector of UK #1s? Not the only one who has been searching day and night for those ultra rare mp3s by The Crowd, Ferry Aid, The Firm, Mike Sarne, Mr. Blobby and Eden Kane? :-)

Mainstream stuff is available in spades off slsk, people I'm sure choose not to maneuver with queues, and rather go for the simultaneous downloads of Kazaa.

Check it out Geir!

We don't get to the proper melodic stuff for a while, of course...

Actually, one of the Napsterclones (KaZaa, I think) has countersued the RIAA. Gimme a sec and I'll see if I can find some details.
