Proving that even 5 years down the road that sick hook is still pretty fresh: I don't know how it got on the stereo but within 3 seconds my son was aping the hook. And now he's been repeating it all day long.

Luckily he's not repeating "In Heaven."

But as annoying as that song was (and now, really goads me since I'm sure I'll get to hear it as much as I hear things such as the Shrek soundtrack, Sesame Street, etc.) it was a pretty potent moment in pop.

I wonder if Fatboy Slim knew what he had when he started mixing that in.

I always like to ask artists about the songs that were huge (that they thought would be huge) and the ones that they thought would be huge (that weren't.)

is that the "check it out y'all, the funk soul brother one"?

check out the 1996 clatterbox album on clear for an identicalhook. does cook acknowledge it?

This song is on a mix CD I made and now my 5 year is going around singing "fuck soul brother"

Absolutely great, even if it hasn't dated well, it's dated well in terms of being a great thing to like to say a big "fuck you" to dance snobs.

I always imagine it as "My Name Is Fatboy Slim Shady" now, which was the first bootleg I remember. It's still great.

I just pulled it out and listened to it again because of this thread - its still great!

Also, if Kish Kash is anything to go by, I reckon this sort of maximalist big drum dance production could come back bigstyle over the next year or so.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 27 September 2003 15:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Big drum. I mean big chunky Plug It In style drums with hundreds of disparate influences crammed in with big meaty basslines. So yes, maybe Big Beat, but without all the crap bits.
