This is extremely fucking difficult, but anybody who cheats at does a PO15 or whatever is a CHEATER. The funny thing for me is that while I prefer the first two albums to the second pair, POX-wise the Yule years get much more attention.

I actually haven't listened to the 3rd album in 5 years so maybe including "Candy Says" and "Pale Blue Eyes" isn't totally right. I liked "Loop".

sundar subramanian (sundar), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 04:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I heard a VU song that starts off a lot like how a Tone song starts off, either "Karma" or "Alhambra." Can someone ID?

(81:04, pretty much chronological, except for the live "What Goes On" tacked at the end - my favorite rhythm guitar workout ever, except for maybe "Le Freak"! - "Sister Ray" and some others were cut as they were simply too long and there were equally essential tracks...)

I'm Waiting for the Man

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 00:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I love the beginning of the demo version of "All Tomorrow's Parties" off the boxed set. Lou calls the take, insults Sterling for not keeping up, sings a terrible Dylan impression for about 30 seconds, then forgets the lyrics and says "Fucking Shit!" I usually start out any Velvets mix tape with that snippet (flowing smoothly into the Nico version of "All Tomorrow's Parties," which is *the* fucking shit).

Kenan (kenan), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 00:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Rock and Roll
Sweet Jane
Head Held High
Who Loves the Sun
What Goes On
Run Run Run
We're Gonna Have a Real Good Time Together (live '69 version)
Lonesome Cowboy Bill

You're really only cheating yourself if you don't pick Sister Ray

Sonny A. (Keiko), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 15:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Sister Ray
I Heard Her Call My Name
Venus In Furs
Sunday Morning
Heroin
Sweet Bonnie Brown/It's Just Too Much
The Black Angel's Death Song
Oh Sweet Nothin'
Candy Says
Foggy Notion

This list nags at my conscience - I'd be happier if I could take the first 2 LPs in their entirety and then POX Doug Yule-era songs. Still wouldn't be enough, tho.

Glad to see Foggy Notion on alot of these lists. It is my absolute favorite track, mainly cos the rhythm section is just so damn tight and dancable.

one year passes...

I was listening to "Sister Ray" just now, and my 10 year old walked in to the room and asked me, "Dad, what does 'narcissistic' mean?" So I tell her it means you're more interested in yourself than anyone else. She points to the speakers. "This is narcissistic music." And then she walks out of the room.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 21 November 2017 21:28 (eight years ago)

You are still listening to Sister Ray? Isn't that a song you listen to only once in your life?
