CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 29 September 2003 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

A couple stand out as really odd, ie what on earth are they doing there? Mark Owen? Christina Aguilera? The Wombles??? Shurely shome mishtake?

Good to see they've included my absolute nemesis of a song tho - come in, number 72...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 29 September 2003 13:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I've just noticed Benny Benassi's in there too...wtfuckin'f?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 29 September 2003 13:57 (twenty-two years ago)

New Worst Pop Records please

stevem (blueski), Monday, 29 September 2003 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Most of these are grebt, or at least alright.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Monday, 29 September 2003 14:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Most of them are bleedingly obvious - "No one quite like Grandma" etc - but some are just plain odd - "She bangs"? "Stand by your man"? What's going on? And who really cares anyway?

As we're talking about dumb polls - does anyone want to vote for the their favourite Welsh hero? Phil Campbell from Motorhead is doing well, for some reason...

Vote here!

Rob M (Rob M), Monday, 29 September 2003 14:46 (twenty-two years ago)

There are a handful of bad records. There was an ILE thread on this. We're going to have a shouting party when the time comes.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 29 September 2003 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

On what planet is 'Thong Song' worse than, say, the back catalogue of Oasis, U2, or Travis?

Enrique (Enrique), Monday, 29 September 2003 14:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Poor Chas and Dave :(

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Monday, 29 September 2003 14:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't understand why Benny Benassi is there.
And if they've got popular modern schmaltz like Celine Dion and Whitney Houston then why isn't Robbie Williams "Angels" there?
And where's "The Long & Winding Road" by Will Young & Gareth Gates, the one song that could honestly drive me to commit murder.

Neil FC (Neil FC), Monday, 29 September 2003 15:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Obviously Dirrty is in there so that C4 has an excuse to launch into a five-minute bitchfest about an easy target (see also Jenny From The Block).

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 29 September 2003 15:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Wot,no Stereophonics?

I've never heard the Naomi Campbell choice, but I'd wager her album will be the subject of much revisionism in about 10 years time.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Monday, 29 September 2003 15:45 (twenty-two years ago)

why is "back home" in there? best england world cup song ever

Bob Shaw (Bob Shaw), Monday, 29 September 2003 15:48 (twenty-two years ago)

STOP PISSING ON MY CHILDHOOD YOU CUNTS.

Who's up for hiring a tank and parking outside C4's offices, blasting out Doop and I Wanna Be A Hippy on full volume? Possibly simultaneously.

Also - spot the available talking head (Paul Medford, Richard Blackwood, Mark Owen).

And Catherine Zeta Jones had a singing career?

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 29 September 2003 20:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, and look, it's presented by Jimmy Carr. Because 100 Worst Britons was fantastic, wasn't it.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 29 September 2003 20:19 (twenty-two years ago)

some of the cliched choices don't seem to be there (cf "Seven Tears"). some of the songs that *are* there are quite baffling (the Catherine Zeta Jones single was a one-week-at-number-36 job, and who on earth has ever been offended by Dannii's "Put The Needle On It")?

if I didn't boycott these programmes however I would vote for "Jenny On The Block", a shocker in all senses.

robin carmody (robin carmody), Monday, 29 September 2003 20:27 (twenty-two years ago)

or rather "Jenny From The Block", obv

robin carmody (robin carmody), Monday, 29 September 2003 20:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Really? Jenny from the Block is one of my favourite singles of the last few years.

Also Remember you're a womble was my first favourite song... at least according to my Dad.

Keith Watson (kmw), Monday, 29 September 2003 20:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I really like that Plastic Bertrand song....AND....why do people insist on saying that Ice Ice Baby was a bad song, when it's obviously a great song - clever sample, and insanely catchy chorus and lyrics....

Matt Helgeson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 29 September 2003 22:49 (twenty-two years ago)

i have tbe naomi campell album. its not v. good.

anthony easton (anthony), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 01:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Needs waaaaay more hip hop. Particularly the WORST song I have ever heard "get yer freak on" or whatever by Miss E. Vomit, the one with the shittiest of shitty one-finger casio melodies that goes nee nee-nee NEE nee, nee nee-nee NEE nee over and over and over until you puncture your eardrums with pointy things to stop it.

Obviously their list of best records would also be terrible as proven by them including "Laughing Gnome" by Bowie. Shut up you twats. At least they have Meat Loaf on there.

sucka (sucka), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 03:47 (twenty-two years ago)

casio makes tablas?

cinniblount (James Blount), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 04:08 (twenty-two years ago)

if they don't then they should

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 04:16 (twenty-two years ago)

So are all of these 'as voted for' tings actually just 100 out of 130 'as chosen by' some lo-slung C4 researcher?
Cuts both ways: on the best 100 movies they had 'Potemkin', which is an obvious 'should be there for formal innovation' choice that no-one wd ever choose as their favourite film.

Enrique (Enrique), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 07:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I read that as 'Pokemon' at first!

I'm with Keith re. "Jenny From The Block" - great stuff.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 08:51 (twenty-two years ago)

"Battleship Pokemon", Hmmmmmm.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 09:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I can think of much worse records than 'Jenny from the Block'... and much better. Recently either 'five' or C4 put on a 'let's all hate on J-Lo' show for about an hour and by the end I was on her side, and the same goes for X-tina now. I can't face buying Esquire but the Morley 'pop disaster' comment seems unjust, 'Beautiful' rocks, and pop stars are supposed to look ridiculous, remember Gomez. I once served one of Gomez in a branch of Waterstones - but since I stopped with the NME the very idea of me recognizing one of 'em (or Travis, Muse, whatever) is laughable. X-tina on the other hand, I would recognize.

Enrique (Enrique), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 09:28 (twenty-two years ago)

one-finger casio melodies that goes nee nee-nee NEE nee, nee nee-nee NEE nee over and over and over

and in what way is this is a bad thing?

joni vl-tone, Tuesday, 30 September 2003 10:16 (twenty-two years ago)

you hate "wannabe" = you hate me

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

You can add your own "songs I hate" at the bottom of the voting page. I think we should try to block-vote Sonic Youth's "Youth Against Fascism" into the top 100...just because.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

A worst singles list that includes "MMMBop" and "Wannabe" is clearly worthless.

billstevejim, Wednesday, 1 October 2003 01:32 (twenty-two years ago)

How are any of these songs worse than "Life's Been Good" by Joe Walsh?

billstevejim, Wednesday, 1 October 2003 01:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I want to like "mr. blobby" even though I've never heard it.

They stole my band name.

p.j. (Henry), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 20:01 (twenty-two years ago)

They've got Bob the Builder on here. Bob the Builder is claymation...have they no soul!?!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)
