While it may surprise some, considering my hate for a certain other funk act whose family name starts with B and ends with N :-) I am actually checking those two bands out and enjoying a lot of the stuff. Not familiar enough with them to create a POX list yet, but I am pretty sure that the mighty "Flashlight" and "One Nation Under a Groove" will be in it.

Btw. what P-funk tune is "Who Am I (What's My Name)" by Snoop Doggy Dogg based on?

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 29 September 2003 21:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Geir, you should pick up Funkadelic's America Eats its Young record. It's like a prog record. With lots of cool vocal arrangements and harmonies.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Monday, 29 September 2003 21:53 (twenty-two years ago)

The Motherpage has three different songs attached to "What's My Name" and they are "Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof Off the Sucker)," "Atomic Dog," and "(not just) Knee Deep." But the important one is "Atomic Dog."

Hmmm. Seems like the bass sound must be from "(Not Just) Knee Deep" then, as I am now familiar with the other two

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 12:05 (twenty-two years ago)

"(Not Just) Knee Deep" sounds more like the model for De La Soul's "My Myself And I". Oh well, guess Dr. Dre actually invented the bass on "What's My Name" himself then :-)

(God knows I hated going to Lollapalooza whatever year this was--'93?--but the memory of Nick Cave wandering out of the wings to embrace George Clinton and sing backing vox on 'Atomic Dog' may be my single favorite musical memory of all time.)

If it must be merely ten:

Super Stupid (which I would pick ten times by itself.)
Chocolate City
Testify
Getting To Know You
Hit It and Quit It
Red Hot Mama
Good To Your Earhole
Come In Out of The Rain
I'd Rather Be With You (if Bootsy solo is permitted)
California Dreamin' (if Eddie solo is permitted.)

If not then 'Do That Stuff' and 'Mothership Connection.'

"(Not Just) Knee Deep" sounds more like the model for De La Soul's "My Myself And I".

Could X ever equal X more?
