Yeah, I'm bored. What of it?

You just wait until there's an entire genre inspired by Kula Shaker's glorious failure.

My waiting that long is prolly out of the question
(which is both a good and a bad thing).

Jay-Z, obviously...

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 29 September 2003 22:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Limp Bizkit. It's already happening :(

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 29 September 2003 22:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd say Korn's on the top of this list. In fact, probably they've *already* inspired some great bands who I just haven't heard yet.

Maybe also the Dave Matthews Band. Who are very original, by the way.

And the Locust. And Dashboard Confessional. And people like that.

chuck, Monday, 29 September 2003 22:51 (twenty-two years ago)

There's a problem with this idea tho. Am I the only one who is automatically, *helplessly* put right off a band I'd previously really liked when I read an interview that says "Well actually, the reason I first picked up an instrument/started singing is because of Kenny G/Celine Dion" etc?

It's hard to say because most of us won't realize what current bands are shitty until some tells us so next month.

dean gulberry, Monday, 29 September 2003 23:04 (twenty-two years ago)

bright eyes. probably.

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 29 September 2003 23:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Evanescence.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 29 September 2003 23:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, Evanescence is a superb choice. I can see them inspiring a true American version of the Gathering or Lacuna Coil withing mere months.

chuck, Monday, 29 September 2003 23:15 (twenty-two years ago)

did anyone suggest zwan or momus yet?

(i can't read)

dean gulberry, Monday, 29 September 2003 23:22 (twenty-two years ago)

sorry, i forgot that they were all comedians

dean gulberry, Monday, 29 September 2003 23:25 (twenty-two years ago)

The Locust and Bright Eyes are superb choices.

I'd also suggest Liars, who aren't so much shit as a one-trick pony.

Ian Johnson (orion), Monday, 29 September 2003 23:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Mr Johnson, why always with the Liars bashing?

adaml (adaml), Monday, 29 September 2003 23:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Errm, yes?

damian_nz (damian_nz), Monday, 29 September 2003 23:57 (twenty-two years ago)

So Solid Crew, duh.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 00:33 (twenty-two years ago)

What's the Liars' one trick? Good, interesting songs?

Ben Boyer (Ben Boyer), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 17:08 (twenty-two years ago)

maybe Andrew WK

A Nairn (moretap), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, that last song off the Liars "monument" proves very clearly that they're not a 1 trick pony. plus the bassist and drummer left, but theyre still together, so theyre bound to evolve.

Felcher (Felcher), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 17:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I mentioned Tool on the other thread, and Scott Seward mentioned Smashing Pumpkins, but they both probably belong here, since nobody has thought of anybody good they inspired yet. (Well, okay, maybe Smashing Pumpkins aren't technically "today." But they're close.)

chuck, Tuesday, 30 September 2003 21:25 (twenty-two years ago)

When it comes to their influence, I am a patient man. But I get to enjoy them now! I win!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 22:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Eminem bores me to tears, but I think he'll convince lots of white people that perhaps they can participate in rap music.
