I'm selling all my Cat Power seven-inches--where can I get a decent price for them?

Embarassingly enough, yes, I'm getting rid of the last vestiges of being fifteen. Now, I spent far too much money on one of them, and I want to at least get my money back. eBay seems too iffy. The CDs I'm taking to Reckless, which will definitely buy them, but I'm worried they'll rip me off on the seven-inches. I have all four.

So...should I hang onto them because they'll be worth a lot someday, or is there somewhere I can get a good amount of much-needed money for them now?

if you want the money NOW then eBay is the way to go.

if you want to get the best price then go the gemm.com route or the amazon.com route.

haha, i feel your pain..but really, I'd rather listen to those 7"s (especially the one w/ "We Dance" and "Psychic Hearts", and the b-side to "Nude as the News") than most of her full lengths at this point.

You know, I used to see the "Darling Said Sir"/"Headlights" single going for obscene prices on eBay... at a time when I was still selling it for $3 through the Dark Beloved Cloud catalogue. Bizarre.

Douglas (Douglas), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 18:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I assume you threw a few copies on eBay, Douglas?

Sam J. (samjeff), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

How much would you be interested in paying for them, Dean? Nude As The News would be cheaper than the others, obv. Even that I don't see around much anymore, but I wouldn't ask more than $6-7 for it.

eBay worries me because there aren't any comparable auctions up at the moment and Cat Power CD's are going for chhhheeeappp. I have seen the rare ones sell for nice, inflated prices on there before. Gemm is a possibility, although I don't know much about selling there.

Word. As over as the Cat Power chapter in my life may be, all the fawning over songs like "He War" makes me wonder if either I or those doing the fawning need their hearing examined. All of the songs on seven-inch are much more worthy artistically, in my opinion. And like it or not, the idea of melding Sonic Youth's "Schizophrenia" and Alexander Spence's "Weighted Down (The Prison Song)" (before Oar was reissued?) was a brilliant one.

Sarah Pedal (call mr. lee), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 19:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I got "Headlights" for the same price as NATN on Insound--$5. Muahahaha.

Sarah Pedal (call mr. lee), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 19:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Nope, I didn't sell any on eBay. Sold 'em for three dollars a pop until they were gone. That was the point of making the record in the first place: to get them to people who wanted them, not to charge extortionate prices.

Douglas (Douglas), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 19:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Do indie rock singles become valuable even for bands that don't make it big? I just can't see Cat Power being all that collectible.

Mark (MarkR), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 20:45 (twenty-two years ago)

frankly Mark the more obscure the band the higher the prices. check out the prices of obscure northern soul and psych sometime.

the answer, Sarah, is the people doing the fawning

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 21:14 (twenty-two years ago)

the 7inch's peaked around this time last year, it seems, when everyone was eagerly awaiting the new album and hungry for new(or unknown) material.

he war is one of her worst songs imho

kephm, Tuesday, 30 September 2003 21:21 (twenty-two years ago)

have you moved on to thelia zedek yet?

kephm, Tuesday, 30 September 2003 21:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I moved on to Julie Doiron a while ago. She sings in French: enough said. "He War" just sounded like awful, awful college rock to me. And "Free"--it's enough to make me, well, flog all her early EPs on eBay.

This thread about the infamous Avedon photo is hilarious, by the way.

How much $ are you wanting for them, Sarah?

Josh Timmermann (Josh Timmermann), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 22:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Probably $6 for "Nude As The News" and $10 each for the rest of them.
