what is the modern day equivalent of say,
the beloved, electribe 101, that sorta thing...?
you know house music but with proper pop songs.

Luomo, Erlend Øye, Moloko.

I think Moloko yes but Erlend Oye no. Luomo maybe but not *really*.

Royksopp, Moby, Zero 7, Goldfrapp maybe?

definitely not luomo: i can see where this comes from but the ethos is so different it doesn't really work.
the whole thing has been usurped by the resurgence of bands and rock as far as i can see. there are no real equivalents. i mean, of course you have your jaxxes and daft punks etc, but nothing that really fits this very specific brand of credible commercial dance music.
just for the record, i was listening to happiness by the beloved only the other day for the first time in years. i didn't really like themn much at the time but a girlfriend of mine bought it for me in an effort to convert me. it worked - about a decade too late! it's a nice record!

check out the 2nd Kelley Polar Quartet record on Environ. It has a nice disco with strings in the Morgan Geist/Environ production style song but with pop vocals.
