"Cause you're a preppy, a preppy
You're so fucking lame, you all look the same."

"Preppy" by Jody Foster's Army. Pure poetry.

holy shit JFA, wheres my skateboard.

JFA's finest moment remains "Beach Blanket Bong-Out".

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 18:08 (twenty years ago) link

It's sad that JFA gets lumped in with the rest of the skatepunk bands of that era since I think they were one of the finest punk bands of that era and had a whole lot more instrumental imagination than most of the so called "skatepunk bands." Placebo was a great record label.

"this one's for jack rabid and he's not even fucking here, man!"

i love that for some reason. i think i still have my mad garden e.p. that should go on the e.p. thread. greatest use of punk rock trumpet ever!!!!

what if any JFA records feature the guitarist from the Sun City Girls?

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 19:24 (twenty years ago) link

I think that's a Jodie Foster "lookalike," and not a very convincing one.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 20:16 (twenty years ago) link

nope, it's her! i have that issue of flipside (it came with ROTR vol.2 or 3)!

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 20:17 (twenty years ago) link

I dunno, man, that woman looks way too young in that picture to be Jodie. Her jaw doesn't look right either. Morever, I doubt she was particularly amused/flattered by the notion of the band (being that Hinkly's attention to here was jarring enough).

Compare/contrast...

I sincerely doubth that's her. Wrong age, wrong nose, wrong jaw, and totally out of character. I heard an interview with Jodie Foster on the radio as recently as a couple years ago, and she clammed right up when the interviewer made mention of the Hinckley connection. She has *zero* sense of humor when it comes to that subject (and understandably so).

If it were her, though, she'd be just about the coolest person on the planet. I mean, posing with the band that named itself after the lunatic who shot the president in order to gain your affection? Awesome.

hi!

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 20:42 (twenty years ago) link

you did read to the end, gygax!?

After the Big Green Bus dropped Jodie off where she lived in Fullerton, our manager Tony Victor motioned me up to the front of the bus and said, "Brian, I hope you know that wasn't Jodie Foster."

I was aghast.

Somewhere deep inside I knew what he was saying to be true but I didn't want to believe it.

I refused.

I refused to admit I refused. But deep inside I knew it was true.

Hinkley's about to get out of prison according to that NY Times article over the weekend. Apparently he's not insane anymore.

scott m (mcd), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 20:49 (twenty years ago) link

sorry Hinckley I guess is how you spell it.

scott m (mcd), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 20:49 (twenty years ago) link

Yes, that's why I posted it dude!

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 21:13 (twenty years ago) link

In any case, they were still a great band.

This picture, however....

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 21:17 (twenty years ago) link
