Anyone know where I can find this? I've tried to find a thread on it as well, but am having no luck. Help? Please?

Phil Collins to thread!

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 20:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I remember Prince at #2, Rem at #8, and Lou Reed at #11. If that helps.

:)

So I was wrong about Lou Reed. Still, thanks Milo and Alex. I'd forgotten about that list, and I remember it having this HUGE impact on what I bought at the time. I think I was about 14.

I'm contributing a chapter about Appetite for Destruction to a German friend's as-yet-clearly-defined project, and was curious as to where Jann & Co. ranked it. Thanky thanky thanky!

I remember that issue. At that point, I'd never heard London Calling and has absolutely no idea who Richard & Linda Thompson were.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 20:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, it's ranked #27, btw.

Me either! (And I did the math, and I was actually 16 in 1990.)

Do Rolling Stone lists still have such an impact on kids that age? Or are they reading something else?

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 21:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Do Rolling Stone lists have an impact on anyone? (Other than making music geeks like myself mad, of course).

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 21:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Kenan and Fever in same age shockah!

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 21:07 (twenty-two years ago)

>I'm contributing a chapter about Appetite for Destruction to a German friend's as-yet-clearly-defined project,<

Wait, so is this the same "as yet clearly (un?) defined project" that you're writing about Patti's *Horses* for? I was thinking it might be that alleged Derogatis-edit thing about allegedly overrated canonical albums that's alleged to be coming out, but he's not German, I guess!

chuck, Tuesday, 9 December 2003 21:22 (twenty-two years ago)

No, the chapter in the DeRogatis book about Horses is being written (has been written) by a sad little girl from Austin with no talent whatsoever. Her selection does not bode well for the rest of the book, even as a deliciously maddening read. Looks like it's going to be just plain unreadable.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 21:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Jim Derogatis responsible for unreadable book shockah!

(First time I ever said "shockah" on here, honest!)

chuck, Tuesday, 9 December 2003 21:35 (twenty-two years ago)

ONE OF US, Chuck.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 21:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, let's be fair. If he wrote it himself, it would at least be infuriating.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 21:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, it's the same book as the one I was writing about Horses for, but it's got nothing to do with DeRogatis. Actually, Chuck, e-mail me off list if you're curious. I'm trying to recruit some other folks for him. Details to follow. You too, Ned.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 21:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I ran the last three sentences through babelfish.altavista.com and it came out as "everyone else, fuck off"

Haikunym (Haikunym), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 21:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Hahahaha. I'm sorry. E-mail me whomever's curious.
