false dichotomy.

Between the quotes or between the tracks?

Colin Beckett (Colin Beckett), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 00:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Because, I agree re: quotes. That wasn't very well thought-out.

Colin Beckett (Colin Beckett), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 00:43 (twenty-two years ago)

between the tracks, i think. there's an essential "hurt" to both of them, but clipse is sardonic to disguise it and banner comes over all emo.

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 00:45 (twenty-two years ago)

actually, at the end of the day, i'm not sure the clipse are anything more than a really great comedy duo, so ascribing human emotion to them might be a bit much.

But there seems to be more of a sense of redemption in "Virginia" whereas Banner has resigned himself to never being free.

Colin Beckett (Colin Beckett), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 00:53 (twenty-two years ago)

is there where we get all rockist and look at the albums as a whole?

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 00:54 (twenty-two years ago)

cuz clipse's "freedom" seems fairly intertwined with destroying their people (blah blah stagger lee zzzzz) which they acknowledge, just once, which seems to suggest they too know they can never be free.

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 00:55 (twenty-two years ago)

whereas banner thinking he can never be free comes off more like the lament of a depressed and uncertain man, rather than a philosophical certainty based on lifestyle.

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 00:56 (twenty-two years ago)

or some shit.

speaking of banner, has anyone else heard mississippi: the album 2 - baptized in dirty water? it's basically a new full length being released next week. it's every bit as good as the MTA which is one of the best releases this year, i think.

adam west (adamwest), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 17:40 (twenty-two years ago)

is just me or does banner sound like, uh, mystik journeymen or something on 'eternal' off the new record? talking about being "hella broke" and the way his voice changes up around the "what about the children" part on the second half on the song. it's all very disconcerting. i haven't heard m.j. in about four or five years so please tell me how wrong i am.
