I was listening to "Useless Information" by the Move this morning and it occurred to me that Roy Wood sounds a lot like Ozzy Osbourne.

Well Roy predates the Ozz. Both from Brummagem, maybe this is of some significance.

That's right, Roy's voice was heard first. Anyway, they each sound like each other. Ozzy came to mind as the reference point because he's a little bit more famous.

Captain Beefheart at times sounds exactly like Howling Wolf. The Captain could have done a "CB Does Howling Wolf" LP. Unfortunate.

This factor might be the one and only thing that gives me a problem with Roy. It's not that I dislike Ozzy—in fact, I quite like him—but rather that it sometimes takes me out of the experience — as if Ozzy were to be singing Penny Lane parodies.

That's actually kind of interesting, really.

Ozzy would love to be singing Penny Lane parodies - that's the weird thing.

eight years pass...

He might well do but "Useless Information" is sung by Carl Wayne... admittedly he sounds a bit like Roy Wood on this track (and ergo Ozzy?) Love that clip of the Move doing "Fire Brigade" on TOTP, Roy Wood looks great + the quick cuts to Carl Wayne's "Oohs" are more inventive than the usual camera work on TOTP at the time. Also I thought Ace Kefford had gone bonkers by "Fire Brigade" and had left the band but there he was, large as life and twice as mad.

IF you are a fan of the "Shazam" era, you need to track down the 'live at the filmore' 2CD set that just came out. I got one, signed by Bev Bevan. Which is his real name, thanks wikip.
